I'm not involved with the release other than helping with some promotion. Today was the official announcement.

Incase anyone is interested, Unseen Forces is run by Dennis Dread & The Ajna Offensive- worth checking out if you're into black metal, doom, etc.

Thanks for the knowledge, biteworks. Ordered. Side note: surprised to see this on Unseen Forces. I have several of their metal reissues (Astaroth [no not that Astaroth], The Law, XINR, ETC.) and they are all fantastic, but I never would've had them pegged for a score of this ilk. Glad they did though!

Any way to hear that Filth soundtrack? I looked around but couldn't find anything. I'd like to hear it first...I'm definitely done buying soundtracks blindly!

C'mon, I don't think that a new Mansell soundtrack could be considered a risky purchase.. ;)

oooh I don't think Mansell is the musical genius everyone makes him out to be. If you had said Johann Johannsson, or Max Richter perhaps...I'd buy blindly, but not Mansell.

Nine out of ten ears say listening to Jóhann Jóhannsson will cure you. Of anything.

Yes, Johannsson is the greatest along with Richter for modern composers. I own all of their works on vinyl that are available. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for IBM 1401 and Dis to both be reissued on vinyl. I NEVER buy CDs any more - but I did buy the CD to IBM 1401, it was just too amazing to not own in some format. Copenhagen Dreams is an incredibly beautiful collection of work.

I tend to believe that Richter and Johannsson aren't ever commissioned for big Hollywood style films because they have such a unique sound. Hollywood has taken great composers and CRUSHED them into writing the same bullshit music for every damn film, regardless of content. They do not want actual composers thinking for themselves and using their own unique sound to fill the audio of a multi-million dollar waste of film.

To the best of my knowledge, the only soundtrack Max Richter has done is INFRA, which was for a ballet. I actually saw the ballet performed at the Royal Opera House here in London, complete with live orchestra - it was awesome. Not the kinda thing I usually go to, so pretty memorable.

Personally, I find Johannsson a bit hit and miss. I find some of his stuff overly sentimental and lacking subtlety. Copenhagen Dreams is his best, followed by Fordlandia (which is an imaginary soundtrack of sorts). Actually, now I think of it, I have another soundtrack by him on vinyl - 'And then came the sound of bees...' - it's good too.

There are a few Richter soundtracks out there, although most are only digital releases.

Henry May Long
La Prima Linea
Perfect Sense
Waltz With Bashir (on CD)

ghostfires, just curious, why won't you buy CDs anymore (even if there is no LP out for the same title)?
