The Whole Darn Family Has Arrived - great funk album from '76, reissued 2009

The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby - soul-jazz album from '70, fantastic record way ahead of its time. You can also sample basically the whole album. Original DJ promo. The 2006 reissue is awful.

Miles Davis Quintet w/ John Coltrane - In Copenhagen - this 1960 performance followed the iconic 1959 album Kind of Blue. 2012 pressing.

Experience Unlimited - Free Yourself - another great funk album, '77

Sven Libaek and his Orchestra - Solar Flares - 2009 Votary - thanks to the board for the reco on this

The Braen's Machine - Underground - 2014 Schema repress. Solid '71 psych rock LP from an Italian 'mystery' group (Alessandro Alessandroni et al, perhaps Umiliani).

John Coltrane Quartet - Africa/Brass - Opinions vary on this '61 album by 'Trane, but it's one of my favorites, particularly 'Song Of The Underground Railroad'. This is a '12 reissue from Jazz Wax Records.

Copenhagen Climax - Rockford Kabine - Oft discussed here, this is one hell of a soundtrack from RK for a so-called 'fuck flick'.. for those in the U.S., someone has a copy up on discogs for $14.99 right now.

James Brown and his Famous Flames - Please Please Please - soulful early '59 album from THE GODFATHER, Mr. Dynamite, the amazing Mr. Please Please himself, the star of the show, James Brown w/ early hits Try Me & Please, Please, Please. This is a '64 reissue on King Records.

Lightning Hopkins Sings the Blues - I don't know much about the album. Musically this is a pretty typical and of course excellent effort from Lightning. This is on Crown Records, year unknown, I believe it is a reissue and was originally released on the Imperial label.

BadBadNotGood - BBNG III - this 2014 followup to the breakout album BBNG II sees the group's first all-original work. The instrumental material is jazz-centric and well-arranged but lacks the hip-hop swagger of II, though a couple of tracks groove along nicely.

El-P + KillerMike - Run The Jewels - This 2013 hip hop album from Fool's Gold Records is already a classic.

Red Garland At the Prelude - this '59 live recording is one of my all-time favorite jazz albums...classic. This is an original pressing on the Prestige label.

McCanick OST - Johann Johannsson - Johannsson is a man with no lack of 'n's or 's's in his name, but he also flexes his composition skills in the McCanick OST. This is my first listen after picking this up when the Milan webstore opened, and it's an impressive score worth revisiting.

Ted Curson - The New Thing & The Blue Thing - perhaps the best solo effort from Ted Curson, noted sideman of Charlie Mingus. This is an original '65 pressing on Atlantic Records.

Darrell Banks - Here to Stay - I love this soul record and have listened to it often since picking it out of a used bin years ago based on the cover art and Volt label. Ironically titling his 1969 album "Darrell Banks Is Here To Stay," just a few months later Banks was killed by a police officer that was banging his wife. You may have seen the news last month where a UK copy of a Darrell Banks single, the only known copy, sold for about £15,000.

Donald Byrd - A New Perspective - Another one of my all-time favorite jazz albums. You can't go wrong when Donald Byrd's involved. A New Perspective is one of his best offerings. Fans of the TV show 'Louie' might recognize the excellent track “Cristo Redentor” from Louie's rooftop scene with Parker Posey. My copy is a 1966 stereo reissue of this classic '63 Blue Note release.

Wolfcop - Shooting Guns - This gets played at least once every week or two. Love it! I have an extra copy if anyone still needs to buy one.

Etta James Sings Funk - It isn't early/mid 60's badass Etta, but 'Funk' is still a good album worthy of consideration. This copy is an original '70 dj promo.

Freedom Power (various) - This is Sonor Music Edition's first release, a reissue of a funky 1970 Italian library record.

Iron Man OST - admittedly not my favorite after just a couple of listens.

The Fog OST - probably no description needed here

Joe Henderson - Mode For Joe - Excellent jazz from Joe Henderson, Lee Morgan, Cedar Walton, et al. (trivia: my avatar picture is a Cedar Walton album cover, 'Mobius'). There is a terrific 2xLP 45RPM audiophile reissue from 2013 I have been sleeping on since it came out, but it's $55 retail (no markup, it's just a pricey one).

The Visitor OST - one of Mondo's best, funky jazzy stuff by Micalizzi

Ray Charles - The Early Years - compilation from King Records/Gusto in the late 70s consisting of early-career Ray Charles stuff.

Tycho - Past Is Prologue - Ambient/Electronic stuff, originally 2006 and reissued by Ghostly in 2013 (this copy). It's an okay album, chilled out, not unlike Boards of Canada.

James Brown - Payback - A stone cold funky classic, the band is super tight. Payback is one of James Brown's best albums and has been sampled endlessly.

The Great Alligator - Stelvio Cipriani - This was my introduction to Cipriani's stuff, and it's a good one. This is from Private Records/Stella Edizioni Musicali.

Shirley Horn - Where Are You Going - 1972 jazz record on the Perception Records label. Shirley sings with a rich, smoky voice and also plays the piano. The record is mostly a straightforward vocal jazz affair, but it closes with 'Consequences A Drug Addict Role,' a spoken word and piano track that trails off into percussive noise and a repeated refrain of "death...death...death...death...death...death."

Zombi Death Eaters / Zombi 2 - Fabio Frizzi - the one that started it off... was it only September 2012? Feels like it's been ages.

The Brown Bunny - I got this for the John Frusciante B side, even though whenever I play it I hear from my wife about how it's insufferable guitar noodling. I like it! Australian label Twelve Suns released it in the first half of 2014.

The Dave Bailey Sextet - Gettin' Into Somethin' - Hard bop from drummer Dave Bailey. It's a jam! This copy is a 1960 mono original.

Skalpel - Transit - recent release from Polish duo Skalpel. They produce downtempo instrumental hip hop tracks using mostly Polish jazz records. Their two (excellent!) prior album releases were on NinjaTune, but they released this on their own. You can get copies on their bandcamp, discogs etc.

The Horace Silver Quintet - Song For My Father - a classic Blue Note hard bop album, Horace Silver's best album, and another of my all-time jazz favorites. Like most of the Blue Note albums of the era I love the cover. The title track, a 7-minute bossa nova is especially good and has "inspired" a few big pop hits.

The Island of the Fishermen OST - Luciano Michelini - OK, I'm a sucker. I bought this way too very expensive album. And Violence! with the T-shirt, which my wife proceeded to shrink to a child's size before I even wore it. I like this OST though! Very dramatic, not what I expected but in a good way. I thought it would have an OBI strip, but what looks like the OBI is actually part of the jacket art.

I'm a big Donald Byrd fan too, though primarily his Mizell stuff.

Probably my favourite jazz lp everyone knows chameleon and watermelon man which are killer bbut it's 'sly' on the b side that's my favourite, they just nosedive into it.
