I've been seeing Mark Isham's name mentioned as an influence in reviews for Boards of Canada's Tomorrow's Harvest, along with Carpenter, Frizzi, etc. Can anyone recommend some soundtracks to start with of his? Are there some that are more electronic in nature, or atmospheric?

Just about all of his early film work is electronic, his later stuff is a mix of orchestral and electronic.

A handful of his film scores are available on vinyl, just about everything he's ever done is available on CD or itunes/amazon.

Trouble In Mind is a favourite of mine. Also give his soundtrack to The Crazies remake a listen - ambient but to my ears great!

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I was in a shop yesterday and came across a copy of Trouble in Mind for $6. Gave it a listen in the shop but it didn't really do it for me. A lot of sax, and the electronics sounded very 80's, but in a bad way. I'm guessing that one isn't a soundtrack people were thinking of when naming checking him in reference to BOC. I'll check out those other soundtracks on iTunes and see what sounds interesting.

In specific ref to BOC, check The Hitcher. Isham is a trumpeter, so you'll hear a fair bit of that on most of his scores, but the Sax heard on T.I.M is far less commonly used

I just realized I have one of his solo albums from the Windham Hill label, need to give it a spin.
