The Superior Viaduct versions of the original score have landed, and I kind of wish I'd waited for this instead of the MiruMir one – the typography and design of these is gorgeous!

Yeah, these rule. Mine are en route right now and I cannot wait to get my grubby mitts all over them. I ordered three copies so I can pick my favorite and gift/sell the others. I also bought the MiruMir versions of the 1990 rerecordings of Solaris and Stalker/Mirror. As Superior Viaduct has designs on releasing OST for Stalker/Mirror sourced from the film itself as they did with Solaris and since I enjoy their packaging more, this seemed like the best way to get both versions of each.

Isn't Superior also suppose to be releasing Mirror/Stalker? Is that still going to happen? I want to hold off on ordering Solaris until that is also released if possible...

I posted this somewhere else on site, but I asked them about stalker/mirror and they said hopefully by year's end. That was a couple of months ago and I've not heard anything since.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is the Superior Viaduct Solaris different to the Mirumir one? Not the re-recorded Solaris/Stalker/Mirror ones, but the original soundtrack one.

Don't think there's any difference to the Mirumir original soundtrack. Although when I emailed Superior Viaduct asking what source material they were using for their pressing, they didn't want to answer. So take whatever you want from that

Superior Viaduct actually told me(and I quote): "The Solaris release is sanctioned by the composer and Tarkovsky's son. We got all the materials from them."

Basically whichever you choose - SV or Mirumir - it's ALL GOOD SHIT.

Yeah, I spoke to SV as well and they sourced their score from "quality sources released to us by Artemiev and Tarkovsky." I've read elsewhere that the MM release is sourced from the film stock itself, I believe. No idea f SV's sourcing is similar, but they are very high on the fidelity and they have great sound on their other reissues so I'm inclined to believe them until proven otherwise.

Hmmm... it does seem unlikely that both of these releases had access to the master tapes at around the same time. It would make sense that one of them was sourced from the film stock.

I just got my Superior Viaduct edition in the mail.

The copyright info says that the Superior Viaduct version is licensed from Mirumir - who in turn licensed it from Artemiev and Electroshock Records.

So, I am pretty sure this means that the SV and Mirumir versions contain the same music (and presumably the same will be true for Stalker/Mirror).

I just got mine this morning and came here to post the same. The only difference is there are two MiruMir releases. One sourced from the same film material as the SV release and another that is from a rerecording done in 1990(?) By the Czech(?) philharmonic. Sorry that I'm a little sketchy in the details, but I'm at work and can't look up at the moment. I believe the info is broken down in the most new release thread a ways back.

The re-recording was by Artemiev himself, he created it between 1989-90 in Moscow to fill the gap at that time of no official release of the music. Not sure where you picked up the idea that it was the Czech Philharmonic.....
It's not clear whether Artemiev created it with the same ANS synthesizer used for the original recording. One of these days, I plan to listen to all FIVE versions of the score which I have on vinyl, and attempt some sort of definitive tracklist/sound comparison! Wish me luck...

I got my Superior Viaduct version yesterday fromm Boomkat, and got to say it looks fantastic. I really want all 3 variant sleeves now - i asked Boomkat if they could sort this out but they said no, its pot luck which one they send you!

Thanks, discosucks. I Thought it was your posts in the other thread, but I didn't have time to look it up and didn't want to guess. I probably should've applied the same logic to the Czech bit, but I'll blame two hours of sleep for conflating this rerecording with Mondo's Ghibli rerecordings which were done by the Czech Philharmonic. Is it safe to assume that the MiruMir Stalker/Mirror release is from this same session or time period?
