Tell me something I should be listening to! Anything, soundtrack, non-soundtrack, whatever. Vinyl/CD/tape/download - don't care (well downloads are crap, but hey). Throw some curve balls. Basically, if a mate said "name me ONE thing I should get now" what would you say?

I'll nominate Viv Albertine's "The Vermillion Border" on double red vinyl LP as a starter for 10 .....

Dead Can Dance live 3 lp boxset. Not only is the music stellar but it is easily the best live recording I've ever heard.

Gary Numan's 'Pleasure Principle'.

I was listening to it last night and remembered how much I enjoy/love this album.

Soundtrack: Joe Hisaishi - Hana-Bi (not on vinyl, just in case anyone with a film soundtrack-based label happens to be reading!)

Non-soundtrack: Soulsavers - The Light The Dead See (with Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan on this one - previous albums had Mark Lanegan and Josh Haden)

"Whatever": Biohazard/Resident Evil 2 Soundtrack (the composers did their homework with this one!)

Check out "Kappe" by norwegian artist Svarte Greiner (Erik K. Skodvin). Both nightmarish soundscapes and beautiful droney moodpieces. A definitive must on vinyl!

Y'know, this Nate Young LP "Stay Asleep - Regression Vol. 2" is really excellent. I can't imagine it wouldn't appeal to most everyone on here. He's a member of Wolf Eyes, but this LP is much more subtle and not unlike an 80's horror soundtrack.

Per Keith Fullerton Whitman: november 2011 release ; ... totally incredible set of subterranean electronic anti-gloss from wolf eyes / demons’ nate young, perfectly inhabiting that exact alien landscape pictured on so many nik raicevic album covers while simultaneously keeping a foot in 80’s horror film sound-design (the first track alone ; the little scratchy noises the graemlins in phantasm make, the woozy synth squee from so many charles / richard band flicks, and of course the pitched-noise terminator wooble) ; all while not specifically referencing anything other than his own twisted vision ...

... one of my favorites of the year, this literally has something for everyone ... highly recommended !!!

You can hear samples of it on his website, mimaroglumusicsales.com. Please check it out!

@static14 - Totally agree. Great live album from one of the true original bands. Caught the tour in Dublin which was the last date and a lengthy and emotional gig for them to finish it appeared to be. They performed a lot of stuff from the Gladiator soundtrack too which was an unexpected bonus. Stellar indeed my friend.

My recommendation to you, soundtrack fans of the late 70s, Deathwaltz releases and Goblin freak, would be to have a serious look into Library Music of the 70s, KPM, Bruton, CAM, Telemusic, Montparnasse 2000, Patchwork, etc... Especially the synth stuff of the late 70s, in particular the output from France labels. There's is enough to explore there until you die. Obviously, not everything is worth of mentioning, but the interest is to dig into the mine and find what fits your taste and there is for everyone's.
You can find a lot on Youtube and if you ever encounter one of these under 20$ in a bin, take it! The merchant probably did a mistake with the price!
Here's a cool video with music from Patchwork 49 Library LP. A good place to start.

Interesting stuff purplemule74. Some of these sounds carry into the early 90s. Makes me want to spin my early juno reactor records!

Great piano trio lp from the short half of Pete and Dud. Legendary British jazz pianist and soundtrack composer Roy Budd had the good sense to employ both bassist and drummer from this, and Dud's other records when he formed his own group. http://jonny-white.tumblr.com/
