Interesting article. Thanks for posting. I'm always happy to see people paying for music, but it seems even the industry (outside the majors) would prefer an end to the boom to prevent these difficulties. You can see evidence of it all over the place with delays and vinyl versions being released months after their digital counterparts.

Anyway, thanks again.

I suppose the possibility that all of this vinyl craze was just a fad led to no one actually investing in vinyl manufacturing : it feels like the obvious solution is someone with too much money deciding to cut into the limited competition finally. Hopefully the right person will catch wind of that article and feel inspired.

Thanks for pointing this out, hadn't been aware of the article before.

The original German version can be found here.

For people into electronic music: The author, Thaddeus 'Thaddi' Herrmann, used to edit the mighty DE:BUG magazine. Looking forward to reading once I have finished work.

I saw that article a couple days ago, it's a good read, interesting really, that this whole business is on the shoulders of a few specialists and machines that are getting very old and hard to repair.

Interesting article. I don't think any longtime vinyl fan saw the vinyl boom of the last five years. Now the question is does the demand remain for vinyl? If so investors will have to enter in on the pressing aspect to clear the bottleneck. In all reality it's probably too risky of a venture.

Hopefully Analogue Productions purchase of 13 record pressing machines back in March will alleviate some of the problems once they get them up and running. LINK

@Tim- I have to say I think that Analogue Productions are releasing the best reissues on the market today. I picked up some Beach Boys mono represses and I can't believe how good they sound. The jacket quality is top notch too.

Agreed, best reissues around. I prefer Analogue even to Mobile Fidelity.

Nice. I used Furnace to make some stuff all the way back in 1996, glad to see they are still around.

The owner Eric Astor put out some good records in the 90's on his Art Monk construction label.
