They generally pick a record already widely available much cheaper elsewhere. The "extras" fail to impress. Mine had a drink recipe with a bunch of exotic ingredients no one keeps at home and a litho. Member exclusive store also failed to impress

Utterly baffling to me.

ok, so i'm a professional copy writer, and i have never seen more obviously fake tweets in my life than the ones at the bottom. i've been an advertising professional for 6 years and there is no way those were not written by someone like me.

Considering how hard it is to pick music for someone you know well, having a stranger send you random records is a great way to end up with a rack full of "Kind of O.K. records" you never listen to.

Thanks for posting @Pain_Bubbles. What a total scam. it's hard to believe someone would try to pull something like this off. Maybe the big vinyl reissue movement of the last ten years has offically "jumped the shark"

Yeah the Vnyl seems like a complete rip-off, especially when you consider that they apparently opened up a new record store (In an expensive area) right after raking in the kickstarter funds.
It seems they just used the kickstarter funds to buy records in bulk, maybe even funnel some money into their new record store, put the decent stuff in the record store, and peddled off the remaining junk records in this "hand curated" record scam.

One could say the entire idea of "kickstarter" is very much part of the problem: More traditional new businesses would have to come up with a sound business plan in order to get a loan from a bank, but with kickstarter any halfwit can try to cash in on a stupid idea (or a downright con)with most of the risk being carried by the backers.

VMP seems like a great idea if you're a working professional who once loved music, but don't have the time to track down new or new-to-you music. That said: if you've a record shop anywhere near you, it'd be better to walk in, hand them $25 and tell them what you like. Way less of a chance, you're supporting a local business, and you're not getting fleeced.

I only started collecting vinyl a year and half ago. At one point I was looking for subscription services to create a more diverse library of records plus I love being suprised. For instance I'm a member of the Too Pure singles club (which I think is a great and cheap way to get to know new artists).
Because of the above and their marketing proza on their site I tried VMP for 3 months. Because of VMP I got the Father Misty album that I really love. The other two albums however I don't realy care for. Comparing to the releases of the labels we know and love here on STBC the packaging of VMP is ok. It is not bad at all, but the soundtrack labels really create something special.
I still do like the idea of VMP, but living oversees it just is way too expensive. And also musically too broad for me.
Now I have Bandcamp and sites like Pitchfork to surpise and inform me about non- OST releases.
