Hi everybody. It's time for a new phono cartridge (leaning towards a Nagaoka MP-500) so I'm letting go of a couple of albums to line the coffers.

Hans Zimmer's Inception & Fabio Frizzi's The Beyond are up for grabs. The listed prices include shipping in the lower 48. Shipping to Europe will add another $25us.

Inception had a questionable pressing and this was my fourth and final copy of it (after the fourth try I gave up trying to find a quiet copy). It is noisy at times but the noise doesn't effect dynamics which are far above and beyond the CD. After the pictures you'll find a video to get an idea of the noise. Aside from the issues with the pressing the album is in VG++ shape (conservatively graded).

I'm asking (SALE IS OFF) This is an all sales final kinda deal. If it's shipped in the US you'll get a tracking number, If shipped overseas you'll get a customs claim number. Once it's out of my hands it's out of my hands for good. I only say this because I'm not a big seller and definitely not used to selling a record for this kinda money.

Up next is a Mondo copy of The Beyond. The album and sleeve are in VG++ condition (again very conservatively rated). I'm asking (SOLD)

Hey Static, dont want to ruin your business but i heard rumours of a Inception repress on MOV. prices for this record are absolutely exaggerated and i hope nobody really paid this price. there are records that cost a tenth and are like ten times better.

Some over the top reactions to this sale.

I hope this LP does get a repress because there's obviously demand for it - and many who are sore that they missed out on it originally and are facing prohibitive after-market value. I understand that, but @static's set price for this is actually conservative (believe it or not!) Rumours of re-press are just that for the time being - and obviously wishful thinking on the part of many collectors! For now, if you really want that score on wax, the going rate is
what it is. Yes it's nuts - but like the madness around DWR's The Fog, it's due to a "perfect storm" of composer, cult movie, and actually being a truly great and sought after score.

As for protecting yourself as a buyer - it seems very straightforward and fair to me, since there are no absolute guarantees with postal services and a seller (who's not a bankrolled/insured company) can't be expected to foot the bill for lost/damaged items once he's done his part (packaging the item well). It always pays to make this very clear up front frankly, as some buyers out there do think otherwise!

I certainly didn't get any kind of "fuck you if something goes wrong" tone from @static's statement. That's harsh, and plain wrong in my view.

Good luck finding takers on these Chris :)

Seconded.

Would love a repress but for now will have to start saving some pennies for an original.

@static - brother man I do but with a wedding to save for I think the future Mrs Giles wouldn't be too chuffed if I bought a $300+ album ;)

And just to make it clear, this is a good price for Inception. It regularly and usually sells for more than this as anyone with a discogs account and an ability to put up with a captcha question can ascertain in 5 seconds.

Whether it is worth that to any particular person is a whole other matter and completely irrelevant.

TG- if you were looking for an opportunity to show that you don't plan on changing your obsessive vinyl habits after your nuptuals, there's no better way than to spend the budget for wedding bouquets on a single rekkid! Setting out your stall so to speak!!

;)

(and no, it wasn't me who suggested it....I was never here....)

Btw - I sold my copy of it last year to a guy in Russia, for around £200. Which is pretty much what @static is asking when you convert currency.

I've got an idea...we'll have a whipround and buy it for TG. Who will then invite us all to his wedding where we will present it to him and his bride as our gift. This will obviously cost him a few quid but it won't be on records and we will save him some money by a) getting drunk beforehand and b) doing the DJing.

Sorted.

@static, are you looking at any other cartridges?

also, if you get a buyer for Inception insure it. I recently sold 3 Patricia Barber MOFI releases to one guy, $650 total and I did priority and insured the package for the $650. Not sure how much I would have gotten if something had gone wrong (thank god nothing did) but it gave me a little peace of mind.

@Tim Thanks for the tip! I'm not completely locked into the Nagaoka. Any recommendations?

@static, I had not heard of the Nagaoka so I don't know how much help I will be. Currently I am loving my re-tipped Virtuoso. I also loved the Blackbird when it was on my table. A new one might be above your limit, it was for me years ago, but I was able to find a good used one at a fair price. Others I have had are the Denon 103, I would go with a 103R if I had to do it over, and a Grado Sonata, my first high end cartridge. My brother-in-law has a Dynavector 20x2H that he loves. He has tried a couple of others and ended up selling and keeping the 20x. Whatever you decide I am sure it will be great. Don't get overwhelmed but it all, something I tend to do sometimes. Have fun with it and let us know what you end up with.
