Rewatching the trilogy this weekend. No particular reason.

I really liked the first one. Not sure if I saw the rest. But you say trilogy? I thought there were seven or so…

Yep, I’m only interested in the first 3.

The ‘79 original is kind of a snooze, with moments and obviously it creates all the iconography.

II: The Possession (scripted by Tommy Lee Wallace) is genuinely effed up and well worth revisiting. The stuff they made director Damiani cut after the disastrous preview sounds truly upsetting and over the top. It’s very much more like an 80s Italian horror vibe than US horror of the time.

Mileage varies for most on 3: The Demon but I’m quite fond of it, especially in 3D.

ps. there are actually 23 films that trade off the Amityville name/source, mostly video productions, with 5 more in production. Most have a less than 3/10 rating on imdb, incidentally.

I will check out the second and third one. I also now want to watch the three remaining House sequels.

Just finished this. Pure brilliance. Totally my kind of absurd insanity.

Covid is getting boring

With Oak Street hitting vod this weekend my wife wanted to watch it so we did, still enjoyed on rewatch.

Went to Resident Evil yesterday and enjoyed the hell out of it, the main actor Austin had the perfect freak out screams that just made me laugh. His reactions to all the shit happening around him was very entertaining. I can understand people not liking his "commentary" about the events happening around him but I honestly would do the same thing if I was stranded by myself trying to rationalize what I'm seeing around me. That said some of it felt a bit too "need a line here" for it all to actually work. I thought overall it was a great take on the series, nothing directly tied to any of the games but lots of little references for those that have played them. There were first aid sprays, herbs, weapon attache, maps, locks (this bit was so good), typewriter, among many other little things. I liked a lot of the choices with the virus, it worked well and the finale was fitting to anyone that's played an RE game

Watched a film called Rosebush Pruning, that was a steaming pile of shit that I wish I didn't waste my time watching

And the highlight of my weekend was Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Was enthralled by this one, visually stunning in weird and simple ways. True love and respect for F13th source that they are referencing with their set up. Gillian turning in an odd as hell performance with an awful accent and the main actor really nailing it. The gore was hilariously executed. Just one of those films that pulled me right in and never let up the entire run time

I love me a 90s B-movie dressed as an A-list thriller, and I haven’t even thought about this one in 30 years. The goddess Stowe, Dante Spinotti, Brad Fiedel, solid British director… umm yes please.
