So here are my thoughts on Meccanizzazione after relistening this morning with headphones and through my towers. First off I'm not hyper critical audiophile when it comes to this stuff, I have moderate gear to listen on but my main headphones have been used by producers in studios for 4 decades, they are flat and don't color the music being played at all. I'm not an expert but I have a decent ear. I feel like @tex is being overly harsh on this one. I don't have any original Leo's or any original Italian library pressings for that matter to compare it to. But I think the only way to make a real comparison is to A/B an original and a repressing because if you don't know how it's mixed and pressed then using another record isn't really fair, some labels are very consistent across the board but we all know that stuff varies from release to release. I can't speak to "splatting fuzzy sound" as I honestly don't know what @tex means by that, would you care to elaborate? As for the lack of depth, this I disagree with, I think the mix has depth to it, with my headphones you can hear the cymbals of the kit sitting in the bottom and back of the sound stage while the bass rides right in the middle and the other instruments tend to push between middle and foreground depending on what's taking focus at the moment. The dynamic range could have been opened up a little more but that would be hard to really do depending on what the source actually was for this. Nothing sounds too harsh but it does seem pushed a little hotter than I would imagine an original pressing of something like this to be but this is pure speculation. I think seeing the 4 out of 10 rating is the most jarring but everyone's rating system is kind of different. Generally for me a 4 means something is bad, 1-3 for me would probably be unlistenable, 5-6 would be good, 7-8 great, 9-10 phenomenal. Rating it against originals probably changes the scale that he rated it on.
So to wrap this long winded post up I think it's a good pressing that has no audible issues with the pressing (no excessive surface noise or nasty pops/clicks), it sounds good, could have a bit more dynamic range but overall I'm really happy with how it sounds. If any one has a OG vinyl rip to compare it to I would love to hear it, even if it's just a track. I'm 100% in agreement with @tex on the jacket though, it feels cheap and I would have preferred a matte finish on heavy stock, similar to some of the Sonor reissues.
Also it's a $30 repress of a record that last sold on discogs for $900+. A lesser version of a great album is still better than not having the album at all, at least for me :)
