Maybe I should step away and just post press releases and release information ?
I'd hate to see this turn into...."we don't know what we've got, until it's gone" kind of phenomenon. I can appreciate Spencer's pov and generally agree with what disco says too... there have been a few gripes in recent weeks (I've noticed, at least)...this must be wearing his 'goodwill' a bit thin. Defaulting to just press releases and release info...would be a huge loss.

Is that "take care of it" like you took care of my Room 237 CDs Spencer? I finally went out and bought one rather than keep pestering you about it.

I did have a problem with The Fog having defects on, but that copy came from a fleecer rather than DW so there wasn't much I could do about it, other vinyls have been generally okay but I'm much happier there will be black vinyl copies from now on.

@death waltz just pop in and out as you want on the forum - @re-animatedcat said get stuck in, people are interested in what you think, your opinions. I guess sometimes it seems that your efforts aren't appreciated when you know how much effort you're putting in and of course it's gonna feel personal with some of the comments on here sometimes, but overall it's positive and you've put out some amazing records, introduced some great composers I wasn't listening to 3 years ago and helped create a new era in horror vinyl blah blah blah (no arse kissing intended ;) ) New site set up is a good move. Cheers big ears

I think the great thing about this forum is that people like Spencer, Seb, and Kevin do participate here and interact with fans. If you all didn't post here, I think it would be big loss to this forum.

And I didn't mean to suggest that I hate Death Waltz for the record. Obviously you take a lot of time and care with your releases. I'm sure I'll probably come back for Twin Peaks...I won't be able to resist I'm sure. I recorded all the episodes on Beta tapes back when it was first broadcast on ABC and collected the Wrapped in Plastic magazines when I worked at Tower Records back in the day.

The mastering/cutting side of it all is all rather fascinating to me, and is a subject that doesn't get raised when the future of vinyl production is talked about - if someone magically locates a few hundred record lathes in the middle of Russia that escaped the mass metal scrapping of the 1990s, then that's lovely. Finding someone who can use the bloody things properly might be an issue though...
While it's lovely that the likes of Noel Summerville rescued a bunch of equipment from Pye's laboratories back in the day and now remasters Boards Of Canada and My Bloody Valentine records in his shed, it's a skill that will die out in a short space of time unless new equipment and processes (and people!) come along to keep it all going.

Perhaps a "Science Of Soundtracks" movement needs to spring up next to Spencer's "Art Of Soundtracks"?

Spencer, this is Bryan, I wanted to share a pic to show you how much I support DW

I have purchased every variant, 3-4 of each release. Reason being is that the vinyl is as beautiful as the music. To each their own preference to simply black or colored vinyl. I take it ALL!!!

THANK YOU SPENCER!

Does anyone post of the vinyl collective board ?

I am assuming someone here does as info I post here gets passed on over there.

I noticed a few DW are lame cause they cant sell Godzilla in the US .. we tried to extend the license but as lovely as Toho have been working on this the cost was prohibative that there was no way we could make the finacials work..
I also noticed a few 'it's lame that DW isn't making the gatefold standard as it really should be in this day and age , they should just change the colours to make it special'...

I wanted to outline why we have made changes on our forthcoming releases , I thought I had done this but maybe not...

I wanted to draw a clear line in the sand, the ltd version going forward really is bells and whistles, it will be a one off pressing in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes inside on an exclusive colour . The standard verion will be a single pocket jacket with reduced liner notes on the back sleeve and a poster. It will be on super thick card and vinyl and still be lovely to look at & listen too.

I want to make the the ltd version a really collectible one off pressing and the standard version accessible , affordable and in print. Our prices should have gone up over this last year as our costs have risen a lot, but I want to keep things balanced hence why the deluxe has gone up slightly but the standard has dropped slightly.

We even dropped the retail price to our wholesalers so you should see things a little bit cheaper in stores etc .

Hope this clears up why we have done this and I hope you guys dig it .

Just want to say "Props" to Spencer & DW. What you do is great & a bit special really. To secure such big licenses while keeping a truly indie "I'm gonna release the music I like" approach is commendable.

I love that some of the biggest film & TV scores are getting the DW touch but also appreciate the retro/'classic' & (for some, me included) lesser known works. I enjoy checking out films & soundtracks I'd previously passed by or not even come across before. Spencer has a great pair of lugs & seems to always offer up something inspiring. As a composer myself, its brilliant to get a heads-up on these gems & tuck them away in my subconscious to be drawn upon when the time comes.

If things are delivered late, I don't care. If releases are delayed, I don't care. S'all good, DW are great at what they do, shit happens & at the end of the day we're getting some wicked wax. :)

I think the one thing I take away from this is that now the Subscription has more value because the Sub version, along with the limited pressing for the general public, are more deluxe that the version that will remain in print. People who have the subscription are taken care of, and are getting the best possible version. People who maybe don't want to pay for the whole subscription but maybe want a deluxe version of some of the releases have a chance to get it. It's a way of distinguishing the sub copies from the general versions aside from it just being a different color vinyl. People like limited edition vinyl, but it's nice to see there's going to be a regular edition that will remain in print for those that maybe can't get the limited version, don't care to, or discover it long after it's sold out.

OOF? Too many copies? What can I say, I just like collecting. And you don't make it easy sometimes to only buy one color. I've got two variants of some of the early releases, and two variants of everything from The Fog through the end of Sub 3. With releases like The Fog and Assault on Precinct 13, it's hard to just get one color as they're all awesome looking. Going forward though, I'm just sticking to my Sub versions as I need to cut back on spending, though I'm probably going to break that on Twin Peaks I'm guessing.

@deathwaltz - I wouldn't spend much time stressing about Vinyl Collective, man. I just read through the recent pages of that thread (and a few others) and it seems like there are as many level headed folks as there are reactionary Hot Topic vinyl enthusiasts in there. Some folks are even, as you said, disseminating proper knowledge. All in all, that's a pretty favorable thread and a short list of complaints, most of which have been corrected. Also, and I know this seems obvious, it's the World Wide Web. Many folks post things about themselves or loved ones without thinking that they come to eventually, or instantly, regret. And while no one would suggest that you shouldn't care about your craft personally or protect your business professionally, you simply cannot expect these same folks to give their posts the consideration and forethought that you do. Some of those folks may never even go back to read a response or make another post. That's just how forums work; even this one sometimes. Take solace in the knowledge that there are forum threads about DWRC out there. They may contain a few stray complaints, but overall they are great exposure and the fact that so many care enough to write about your company at all in their free time is evidence that you're doing a whole lot more right than wrong.
