I would imagine the obi strips could be put inside the sleeves... That's what I did with the ones I do have. I think Spencer said exactly that around the RSD releases. No muss, no fuss...

*GASP* !!!

Personally I leave the obi strip inside the plastic outersleeve that I put all my records in, wrapped around the left side of the cover.

I always save all OBI strips. I do what Nathan does - leave them wrapped around the jacket and slide the whole thing into a protective sleeve. I think OBI strips are great...DW makes good ones, LITA's are always great...I have some cool ones on other random albums like Expo 70 & Tangerine Dream, and they are always really neat I think.

Oh man, I cannot wait for Lizard in a Woman's Skin and The New Barbarians. Thanks for sharing that.

I'm genuinely shocked by the love for obi's. I apologise Spencer if you put a lot of work into them just to be tossed aside! ☺️

That said I do Remember someone saying they don't take the record out the cellophane do didn't see the liner notes on CotLD. You know who you are!!

@philball1974 that's me! I know that this goes against pretty much everyone on the forum, but I'm not a huge fan of that soundtrack & I've never seen the film. I'd probably sell it if I didn't have the lithograph framed on my wall...

I've just about hung up my headphones DJing now & this is certainly a hobby that gives the records a right old battering. After 15+ years of carelessness I've become very protective these days!

I wonder what the chances are of more TCM going up for sale after BeyondFest. I was indecisive last time, I thought $57 was a bit much to get it here to the states. Now I am wishing I had gotten it. :(

@Tim I don't want to rub salt in the wounds so to speak, but if you can get it then do. Its brilliant.

So glad to finally get my hands on my sub BTBR after waiting so long since the initial announcement last year (I think). The music, vinyl and artwork are superb but have to say I was expecting a nice textured sleeve like the other deluxe sub releases. Despite that, it's up there in my top 5 DW releases so far.

Throw out that obi and you lose a third of your resale value. Or at least that's the way it is in Japan where the damn things were invented. Though their obi's are full wraparounds and better than these Western imitations.

I enjoy the obi's although I do stick mine inside the jacket after opening the record, mainly to avoid damaging them when removing or replacing the record in the poly sleeve. The only ones I leave outside the jacket are last year's RSD releases since they don't have titles (or identifying quotes) printed on the jacket spines.

If you seriously collect soundtracks, then you'll know to keep that obi safe and clean. I have a fair few Japanese LPs, and they just don't look the same without the obi. This is coming from someone who really doesn't give a crap about these colour variants or inch thick cardboard sleeves that take the space of 6 normal LPs, but an obi is a very nice part of the LP - especially Japanese LPs where the lack of an obi makes the LP feel naked . Oh, and if for what ever reason you ever have to sell you collection, as goodnightcigarettes said, you can knock a third off the sale price.

@Lino, what is the criteria for "seriously collecting"?

As for 2nd hand value, I don't plan on selling anything, my non serious collection means to much to be anything other than passed on to the kids.

As someone mentioned above, I also just keep the obi strip over the record jacket inside the poly sleeve. I definitely wouldn't toss it, but this is also coming from the guy who saves the hype stickers after removing shrinkwrap from a record. :)

Here you have the pro and the con: Poly looks uncool, but when you stock the records to tight, the spin will be damaged.
