What are the chances of the Elmer Bernstein's score to Ghostbusters getting a vinyl release on Varese do you think? I own the CD of it from them and it's so flipping good. I can only think it's licensing/rights issues that have meant it not happening so far. Would love to know why though.

@vapour

I LOVE that score. one of the best comedy scores out there, a genre which i feel is terribly undervalued in the score collector community. i collect a lot of John Morris' Mel Brooks stuff and just the other day picked up Danny Elfman's Midnight Run score (yeah accordion!) but Bernstein's score t ghostbusters is probably on of my favorite all time scores, in any genre.

Gave it some listening searches bits around the web today. Sounds pretty interesting. A shame there's no black version.

I jumped on the death waltz link for Baron blood. So I paid maybe 25$ too much.

Cool, thanks. Hoping they will turn up in Europe as well. On DW there's only splatter and (standard version) solid red.
Fingers crossed we see some blacks here too.

Thanks for the heads up on this zuko. Looks interesting! Lots of brooding strings. I do like this sort of stuff, although having listened to all of it twice, the theme's dont develop enough at times so its ends up sounding a bit samey and generically moody. Theres still a part of me wants to buy it but... might give it another go.

To those from UK, if you go to truprint.co.uk and use the code XMASMUGS14 at checkout, you can waste a happy 15 minutes designing your own mug (one pic or a collage) for £3 incl delivery which seems pretty good (usually a tenner). I've just made a nice yellow one full of pics of record labels and library lps that might grace this forum. Amazing what crap you can find to do to when you have research to write up.

I went to see the Imitation Game last night with the missus. Really enjoyed it. The score was subtle but had a really nice theme throughout. Plenty of strings and a lovely plinky piano, I'm guessing it's emulating his giant code breaking computer. I've been listening to it a lot today on Cockify and it really is quite good... But then again im a sucker for these classical type scores. Will more than likely be picking this up.

@ghostfires - Its at soundohm HERE free shipping in EU, but unsure what it is for US. If they are offering free for Europe, it cant be too painful worldwide. Agree with that ghosty, bought 3 & 4 and they are some of the best LPs bought in the last 5 years :)

Good stuff! I'll have to get around to checking out more comedy scores. Apart from Midnight Run is there any others that I should listen to? The thing I like about the Ghostbusters score is that some of the tracks are actually quite creepy and I love the variety throughout, it really is close to genius in my opinion.

FYI guys - soundOHM does free shipping to the USA for orders over 120 Euros so, that would make shipping for the Umiliani set FREE! :) Thinking of snagging one myself, now...

Thrill Jockey Mailorder has two copies of Daniel Fagerström's soundtrack to "A Living Soul." Limited edition of 100. From the TJ site:

In 2013 Daniel Fagerström (Optic Nest, The Skull Defekts etc.) was approached by filmmaker Henry Moore Selder to score for his SciFi-drama A Living Soul. Following the movie’s horrific and out of focus mode Fagerström travelled deep into the world of Ypsilon, a brain stranded in a laboratory. Rigging his studio with dirty reel to reel tape loops, an old organ, a modular synthesizer and samples of luxurious 90ies voice synthesis he composed about 25 songs and sounds for the score. 15 of these has now ended up in soundtrack form on the En Levande Själ / A Living Soul LP as Moptaco Dics 40. The tracks range between down and out Swedish Tape Noise, Eno-like meditations and Martin Denny synth warble.
