Hey blindguy,

This is a totally valid remark and I'll be happy to comment on it.

I think your main question is why only 250 memberships are available? This has a couple of reasons.

First of all, it's not a financial thing why we offer Static Club, sure the upfront money is more than welcome and we invest it in new licenses like straight away, it helps our label grow. But the label does not depend on it, people who buy a sub would buy our releases anyway. If it were a financial thing we would just set the available spots to unlimited and cash in big time… but we don't. This is also why we give half of the spots to LITA for US members. With the euro conversion and shipping they would loose a lot of money if they were to become a member through us in Europe. Still we could do this and our customers are so loyal they would become a member. But we don't and by doing this we give +15k out of our hands… so once again: not a financial thing.

99% of our stuff is sold out. We have limited variants but we keep numbers reasonable so everybody has a chance to buy them. We rather keep it limited to say #500 units instead of #100. Still… it sells out rather quickly.

That's where the club comes in. We offer this service to thank people who really want to support our label and dig what we are doing since the get-go. We thank them by giving them advantages. If you are a member you don't have to worry about stuff selling out and hitting refresh all day. You sit back and relax. Since you make a commitment by becoming a member you get spoiled : variant choice, discounts, first picks, members only items, test pressing raffles, etc.
It's a win-win for both label and club member. Plain and simple.

Also, serving and helping out 250 people all year long is a full time job. That's why members get a contact person just for them. Sara does this and does this exclusively. By keeping membership numbers low she can offer an almost 24/7 service. If it were 500 people, the quality of this service would suffer from it and the personal contact would not be there. As you read through this tread it's safe to say Sara does a more than stellar job.

See it as a party you host…the more guests, the harder it gets to service them and chances are you probably won't have the chance to talk to or know everybody there.

Last year we opened the books for 188 members. All spots were filled (but not in like 24h, it took a couple of weeks)
Now we are accepting 250 members. So it's fair to say that chances are good you will get a spot.

As pricing goes (through LITA)

> Static Vinyl Club USA $125
> Static Cassette Club USA $40
> Static Vinyl & Cassette Club USA $155

> Static Vinyl Club CANADA $170
> Static Cassette Club CANADA $55
> Static Vinyl & Cassette Club CANADA $215

This includes four releases, shipping included.

You pay what you'd pay if you were to buy these separately, no discounts but no extra charge for all the perks and advantages either. Use of the perks, bonus item and personal discount code actually saves you money as opposed to not getting a sub. A lot of our members even made their sub back by frequent use of the discount code :-)

The above prices are cool since it's for four releases instead of 8-10, meaning that basically everybody can afford to become a member.

It's half a blind buy, half not because we will announce the two first releases of the sub when we put it up for sale.
But I think that's irrelevant because everybody knows the shape of things we are releasing and if they dig it, they can become a member with confidence.

So, I hope this answers your question.
I'm glad you asked it.

Cheers
Seb

Seb, good point, i have been a fan since the get go and have all your releases, however, I didn't take out a club membership last time. With this ethos, can you please save a sub slot for me so I don't miss out? Thanks, much love.

Any chance there will...or could be...a black vinyl option with the deluxe packaging?

Not standard, but we can always customize sub packages upon request... So basically: yes!

Packaging is always deluxe, same jacket and insert for both black and color versions.
The only thing missing from our regular editions is color vinyl and bonus items like flexi's etc

I would like mine hand delivered by Seb and Sara (with balloons). I'll be waiting with some whiskey, scotch or wine. Whatever floats your boat.

I'm not sure that's 100% true, actually... I don't think all subbers are necessarily completeists, but they choose to sub for various reasons - to invest in the label, for the sake of convenience etc.

With the DWR sub ending, I might be more inclined to look at and consider each individual release, like I would with other labels - especially when there's so much great stuff to choose from.

You know why I said that Rasmus?

A friend of mine is all math savy and put our sales history through his software and stuff.
We came to the conclusion that 89% of our customers bought all our releases to date.

That's crazy since you have to consider that musically there is a lot of difference between our releases.
Folkrock from Last House, experimental from The Hills, Classical from Candyman, funk from Cannibal Ferox, etc

But you do make a spot-on point that a lot of subbers might buy it for convenience reasons or to support us.
And competition is indeed increasing tenfold.

Thanks for renewing your membership by the way, saw your name on the list.
Much appreciated!

A bit short of money right now (thank you Christmas) but renewing my sub will be the first thing I'll do on the New Year.

Surprise me on the balloons and I'll be renewing. I planned for it. :D I never got an email about DW, so I guess I missed the boat on that one. I can buy locally anyway. No biggie I guess. I was a basic subber, so I'll be paying the same prices locally.

Seb - Thanks for your very thorough response, it's much appreciated! As someone who isn't currently subscribed, you're pointing out some subscription benefits did help me understand some reasons for not wanting to expand the limit more while at the same time making me want in more!

As you mentioned, i looked at the subs as a way to avoid the stress of the random drops. Prior to discovering this wonderful world of score and soundtrack reissues my only concept of record buying stress was ebay and record store day. Now I've become even more sensative since my job recently banned cell phones so a surprise drop could really present a problem. Just recently i was telling someone how the first thing i have to do when ggetting home from work is check the forum and email to make sure no records were put up for sale that day and what did i find when i got home? Necromantik went on sale!

All that being said, I've managed to get all of your releases since discovering the label on RSD without being a subscriber, and if I don't manage to get one, I'm sure that trend will continue.

Thanks again for taking the time to provide all of the information you did.

I hope that I can catch a sub in Jan. Wouldn't it be cool to raise the limitation, that more people get the chance to join and you OWS have more money to calculate?

I'll definitely be renewing for OWS sub2...I'll sort it out after Xmas. With DW subs falling by the wayside...I can see sub2 being very, very popular.

I AM AN 89%er!

...that could make a nice t-shirt maybe? It's all about the convenience here!

So Seb just to be sure we are on the same page - You could do the black vinyl with all the bells and whistles...bonus items etc?

I don't think I'm the only one thanking you for this but THANKS for the Jan 15th re-up deadline! With Xmas upon us and all it is appreciated that we don't have to drop the dough right away!

Can I also ask that another mass email be sent as a reminder of that Jan 15th deadline...some may get caught up and forget

Thanks again Seb and Sara...you're doing the sub world some serious justice!

Sur bro, we can customize that for you. Just email Sara when you are ready to renew and she will hook you up.

Don't worry we'll send a reminder in January to everybody.

Cheers!
