No, they didn't - I'm guessing US & Aus only.

Norman have them listed on their site as a regular release available for pre-order, but one that was due in on 13th April. Not sure whether that's an error or whether its likely they'll really be getting any.

There's also quite a few on discogs (all US sellers, meaning possible Import VAT).

I don't really get the hype on those Brian May scores
I must see Day After Halloween in every other dollar bin I look in .

I agree Spencer, I was really psyched about these as I really, really dug Turkey Shoot, and I was hoping that these scores would be similar, It'd been years since I'd seen Thirst and I was only familiar with the Goblin score for Patrick.

I was initially really keen to get these but all of the samples I heard online really did not grab me at all, the Thirst theme has some cool weirdness to it, but I ended up passing on these three at my local stores.

I actually left RSD empty handed as no stores in Australia got the DW releases and I knew I wouldn't find Spasmo on these shores. Fingers crossed I can get them through Transmission!

for me, the brian may scores sounded pretty cool, and here in my fair town of charleston, sc, there are just simply no fun horror soundtracks to be had in a second hand bin, ever. and i have been looking consistently for many many years, so i went ahead and took the plunge. and they really are lovely.

Layne
that's cool but unlike say Turkey Shoot which was crying out to be released I see these for pennies on my travels all the time and no one was really desperate to have these re-issued . I guess we are just at total market saturation . They look nice but I guess that I am just missing the point of them.

Spencer - i guess i just need to travel more! ha! i am going to new york next month (travelling outside of my state is an incredibly rare occurrence). i bet i will find second-hand copies of all of them there. that's the kind of luck i have. :)

I do think a big part of the novelty was that they were an Australian composer, reissued on an Australian label, it's a bit more of a novelty down here where we have never had an established history of this sort of thing. And if there is any time for a small Aussie label to take a chance on reissuing these it is now, when the demand for this sort of this is at an all time high.

They do look lovely though, part of me wanted them, but a big part of me is trying to be more selective with what I buy this year.

Amongst all the RSD madness, finding these a couple of days ago has given me the most fun from vinyl this week! Some great themes on here and after a couple of hours of this I'm convinced its the early 1960s. (50p each too!) :)

Layne - well IMO that's a bit harsh of Mr DW, THIRST has never had a release before (and that's the one I'm really excited about - the film is a stone cold Ozploitation weird-vampire-virus classic and I love it, even though I only saw it once on British TV in the early 90s...I remember it feeling like a cross between early Cronenberg and Dawn of the Dead/The Crazies! Check out the groovy exploitation sounds in the trailer...)

It totally makes sense to me that they're continuing to plunder May's back catalogue of scores - he did great work on Survivor, Mad Max and Patrick. I've even come to appreciate Turkey Shoot, which underwhelmed me at first. Patrick does have a previous release, but you're looking at £20 for it, certainly you'd be lucky to find it in a dollar bin I would say. Maybe Day After Halloween....but that's one out of three!

@disco - yeah, i've never even seen an LP release for THIRST, and i have only see the goblin score for PATRICK. i have lurked on some DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN pressings on ebay in the past, and they all ended up selling for more than i wanted to pay at the time. so, for me, they all made sense as solid purchases. i understand what spencer is saying. it wasn't an attack on me buying them, it was just questioning why they thought it was worth reissuing them in the first place, and i assume he meant specifically DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN, and maybe PATRICK, but for me, that made it much easier for me to have them. as i stated, there is only one record store worth a flip in my town, and they NEVER have second hand horror soundtracks. as a matter of fact, i think i played a strong role in them ordering any new horror soundtracks in the first place because i kept asking them if they had them in stock.

I wasn't trying to be harsh Disco I LOVE dual planet . Just offering an opinion as someone that has bought soundtracks on vinyl for years , these are not interesting musically (to me ) and I find it hard to get excited by them - Unlike say Chain Reaction and Turkey Shoot which are top notch.

And Layne is correct I was sepcifically talking about DAT which I see in every used record store I venture into in the states.

@Layne - oh yeah, I get where Spencer's coming from, I just happen to be pretty excited for Thirst (ask my local record stores who I've been bugging, haha) and would probably take the set if I saw them, since I don't have the other two either. I also dig the cut n paste sleeve art! :) Just throwing a different POV in really.

Keep demanding the horrors in your local store man, I'm sure you're helping out other freaks by bringing choice OSTs to town ;)

The OCD in me is ticking because I didn't buy the DAH, but got the other two.

I already have the citadel pressing of day... and it's not that remarkable.

Spencer is correct, I do see that one in a lot of used stores. Priced way more than it should be at times.

@texas - wooooo hooooo! although a bit overwhelming. :) i'm still trying to sort through my avalanche of records that have arrived over the last month. seems like all of those preorders we have been putting in were all released at once. i have received records in the mail about 5 times a week for the past few weeks. i have to assure my wife these are all orders i have placed over the last few months hitting at the same time!

How is the Gainsbourg @disco?

Saw it on RSD but didn't pick it up due to cries of 'bootleg' and general pressing negativity on here. To be honest I'd spent enough, so something had to get left in the racks :)

Here's the thing - for all the bad word thrown at Doxy, their releases always have a barcode, and the ones I have always sounds pretty good. Sure, some folks have mentioned that they are probably pressing from CD source/masters. But in all honesty, I'm sure there's waaay more of that going on with the vinyl re-issue market than we know about/anyone would want to admit.

It might not be ideal, but I'm willing to be "flexible" in m y approach to such things if it means I can play this stuff on my preferred medium.

Even the Psycho release isn't anywhere near as bad as some have declaimed, to my ears at least...

I haven't had a chance to spin the Gainsbourg yet though (I'm way deep into Phase IV and Adam and the Ants just now!) but I'll report back with my findings sir! I also have the Doxy Le Mepris in the queue just now - what a beautiful score that is!

So I finally got hold of the Fantomas box set and it is everything I hoped for and more. It even inspired me to get hold of a tape player so I could hear the demo tape. I felt like Bub using it though, it has been a long time.

Also, to anyone in the UK after a copy, I got it on discogs from the seller Collectors Choice who still have it for sale. They somehow only charged $6.99 for shipping so it came to 55 pound shipped and it was delivered by Parcelforce in a well packaged box from a UK address so I didn't get customs charges. Highly recommend the purchase (as I'm sure @disco and @tag will agree).

"Even the Psycho release isn’t anywhere near as bad as some have declaimed, to my ears at least…

Glad to hear that, felt guilty some folks went for it and were disappointed. I have a fair number of Doxy reissues of old jazz and blues albums, and I generally find them adequate particularly in light of the prices (I often find these for $8-12).
