Ah I can't take the credit - someone else (I think Si) already posted about it. But tickets just went on sale THIS MORNING. So get stuck in! Yeah, I just prefer the Southbank. I have seen some great stuff at The Barbican over the years though - I go to the London Jazz Festival every year and recently booked to see Nils Frahm.

Nice article Layne! for the record, I'm more impressed with your wife's mustache support than her vinyl support. I had a more modest 'stache that definitely caused more spousal friction than my vinyl habit.

@jmctodo - ha ha ha! it took a while with the moustache, but she likes it now that it has gotten wild and wool-y. it's more of a running gag in my house of me trying to figure out how to eat without eating part of my moustache. and don't get me started on the difficulty of eating soup...

@layne -- great article -- I am really jealous of the Boatman's Call -- something I passed on many years ago and have regretted it ever since. I love that your daughters are into good music -- My wife and I hope to instill the same values (and they are values!) into our little guy -- he's off to a good start so far. (he's only 2). @si - the questions were very well thought out. it was fun sitting down and answering them. the only time i ever get interviewed is for a job (stressful), so this was a pretty awesome experience.

@unpopular poet - The Boatman's Call is a favorite of mine and my wife's. that's one we've had for many years, probably paid $15 for it at a used record store, then a few months ago, i pulled it out to listen to it, posted a pic on instagram, and folks were going wild. i looked it up and saw that most of Nick Cave's earlier albums are very difficult to get and people are paying primo prices for them. glad we got them when we did.

@maxvelvet - ha! i did say that. i admit it. but that collection you see is 17+ years in the making. that's a loooong damn time, but so many amazing things are being re-issued right now, i can't keep up... and thank you. 'twas great fun digging in the memory banks to answer some of those questions.

I hate to be the bearer of possibly sad news, but as someone with older kids, I'll say that in the early days, they allow your influence over their music a lot more than when they start getting older. which, I guess is also what we want - independence and taste.

so, my daughter's ipod playlists used to be hand-crafted by me to be an impeccable mix of tunes, but now I am not allowed near them, and they have swayed a LOT more to the pop side. luckily, I still control the turntable (most of the time).

The good news is that I am sure she has a solid background and appreciation for all kinds of music, even if her tastes have veered. All thanks to me and my black circles.

@layne - impressive, and you earned +100 points in my book (not that my book is worth a shit) due to your love of John Frusciante's solo work. I had the pleasure of seeing RHCP play a club show the night of Stadium Arcadium's release and Omar Rodriguez Lopez came out for a 15 encore of dual guitar insanity. Maybe the most blissed-out 15 minutes of my life.

@tony... - seriously - there were a bunch of other soundtracks too. I kept looking over my shoulder - it was too good to be true - I thought for a moment someone must have "planted" them there as a gag or something.

As a side note, I'm listening to The Shining now and would LOVE to see this record get reissued by Death Waltz, One Way Static, or Waxwork. Please?
