Hey Dollarhyde,

very interesting the top 4 record picks, as I'm interested in ethnic music. I haven't heard of those and they seem quite pricey in Discogs. I can't seem to find youtube clips, how are they, and what are they?

Have you heard of this? I was feeling this in the summer, reminded me of Zelda (BOTW) atmosphere. It's the Lyrichord label.

@Steve,

I found out about them while looking up a Japanese session drummer that worked with seiji yokoyama. All of those records are arranged by Kiyoshi Yamaya a great boundary pushing Japanese jazz man. But these are all also very funky, in places.
The Tapestry Koto Records are generally a number of contemporary songs mixed with traditional koto melodies. The others are more larger suites that slip in and out of contemporary arrangements, full blown traditional sounds, and something in between.
Kiyoshi had some incredible session men playing with him on these recordings like the Phillapine's born Sax player Jake H Conception, the dude can blow!
There are some great clips that reveal the funkier parts of these albums on soundcloud, put up by the great Dj El Topo, check out his soundcloud channel.

The records are a part of a larger selection of audiophile recordings put out by Denon, being some of the early digital vinyl recordings, they are brilliantly mastered and pressed peices of wax. The classical recordings of the series are highly regarded for their quality.
There are also more traditional recordings in the series, which are cheaper, there are some ZEN shakuhachi ones I would like to check out.

Lastly I have a few more Kiyoshi LPs on their way to me from Japan, can't wait!

I will have to look up that LP you mention, not played BOTW, I really want to though I'm a big ZELDA fan!

The clips!

@Dollarhyde - Very nice to see you filling out that Denon series -- looks great.

ImageKing Kong Escapes

A bit more creepy and spooky than you might expect, along with some heavy brass. Excellent late 60's work from the maestro Akira Ifukube-san.

I also found a test pressing I have been looking for...

Amaxon UK has a 40% off selected lp's for anyone that's interested, not a ton of OST'S but definitely saw Vault of Horror Italian Connection for right under £16....

Picked up Tangerine Dream Quantum for under £12, Soul Jazz Records' Deutsche Elektronische Musik: Experimental German Rock And Electronic Music 1971-81 for £12.49 &
Bob Dylan Bootleg vols 1-3 for less than £26.....

Pretty damn excited...!

Oh man, The artwork on that is everything. Don't know the music at all but sounds like something i may have to track down.

@Hatter - Are you familiar with his original '54 Godzilla/Gojira score? It's in that vein, but a bit more nuanced and sparse with the spookiness. Very enjoyable if you are into some dark orchestra brass running the show.

Also, don't pay crazy money for this 100-copy pressing with the screen print, as I'm sure Cheddar Brothers/Holy Mountain will repress the LP in a different color with a standard sleeve in the near future.

Love the Godzilla score, went out of my way to snag a deluxe UK pressing when DW put it out years back (loved that brief run of releases in the linen feel huge gatefolds) i'll give this a listen for sure, thanks!

Early-ish (1960s/70s) electronic music for Moog and synth picked up from a London record market... purchases based mainly on cover art and the names of those noodling on said synths.... ;)

Even the ring wear is kinda cool here.

Solid LPs fella - the Perrey/Kinglsey is a classic-touchstone work of course :)

(Now- out of interest, what were the Garsons that you passed on? All OGs or re-ish?)

This was one of the ones I passed on, but hoping to pick up elsewhere... It was an OG. Sleeve a little tatty but the vinyl looked minty. The guy wanted between £40 and £60 for it.

Did a quick check on Discogs on the way to the cashpoint (sellers listing around £20 to £30)and seemed he was over-valuing it to me.

It was hard to leave behind a cluster of low number Brutons too, though again the asking price was around £40 each. I think I will dress down next time I go - was wearing a suit jacket, having just come from a work thing and I wonder whether the guy thought I was some city boy on a lunch break...? :)

@ScoJo... yeah, glad I didn't bite in the cold light of a day... always bit of a gamble when the stall holder doesn't have prices on anything.

Still, I did pick up the Tomita and the Phase 4 Moog album for £3 each - which I was happy to take a chance on. Still learning the value of stuff (musically and otherwise), but like all of us here, enjoying the learning process!

Miss your more 'eclectic' tastes on the DFC - hoping you'll drop in for a guest spot from time to time :)

@monster

It's a 2xlp half of side 4 has some really great bgm cuts. The rest of the album is, I think, the entire audio of the movie. What's really great though is the music is all on the left channel and the dialogue and fx all on the right.
Also it comes with a pretty remarkable large fold out poster.

Curious if other drama lps on Starchild are done this way.

In regard to all the hissatsu lps I would say some seem to be better than others. Not listened to them all yet but generally it seems the earlier the series the better the music, there were like over 20 series I think. Working out which belongs to which series isn't easy either. I grabbed them all in a lot auction.
