So, those are 7 slices of wax coming out of nowhere...

A thought occurred that probably isn't really fair and has a whiff of conspiracy around it: When DWRC announced Tenebrae around the same time Waxwork did it seemed like they both were unaware they would be releasing a version of the same release. I would think that they would contact each other about this. Could they have learned from each other at that time that other similar releases would be on the horizon? And would that be the reason DWRC released their Profondo Rosso version with a pre-order window of three months as to not shoot each other in the foot?

I feel a bit ashamed actually thinking this, but I collect almost all Waxwork and DWRC releases. I however do not really want to double dip as much anymore. Only so much money to spend...

From Mondo (expected to ship in September): 2xLP on 140gm Red Vinyl
We are super proud to not only be reissuing the full original soundtrack as it originally appeared in 1975 (and pressed by the same original pressing plant!) but we also have an entire disc of alternate tracks and takes on vinyl for the first time ever, pulled from the Cinevox archives and compiled by Fabio Capuzzo! Once again the whole package is rounded out by absolutely jaw dropping artwork from Randy Ortiz.
From Consequence of Sounds blurb: 3xLP on 180gm
Profondo Rosso comes pressed on 180-gram 3xLP “Bloodied Doll” colored vinyl with Goblin’s expanded and complete original score for the first time ever, artwork by Italian Illustration Collective MALLEUS, and triple gatefold packaging.
I am wondering if the alternate tracks compiled by Fabio are also used on Waxworks release. I am guessing not.

Tracklist Waxwork probably is the same as Cinevox CD: https://www.discogs.com/Goblin-Profondo ... e/10922574

I actually really like the Phenomena artwork. I have the an old pressing of that one but may upgrade to this once I see the tracklist. Inferno has my interest as well. Profundo Rosso I'll pass on, it's a triple LP which means it's going to be upward $50-$60 and I really just don't need all the extra cue's and versions of songs. I still haven't even ordered DW's version.

Ask Mondo to cancel your order. Big chance they will.

I have a feeling that they will be receiving a lot of cancelled orders this week. Not that their release is inferior, as I think their artwork is way better than Waxworks, it's just that people won't have to wait. These things will start shipping next week I believe.

I feel bad for Mondo - I agree, a lot of folks will probably attempt to cancel their orders.

I don’t think I’ll cancel mine, but I’ll definitely end up re-selling whichever one I like less, eventually.

amazing that these rights went to both of them, and that the releases are all happening within months of each other, so strange.

Spencer on FB Mondowax:

At last year's MondoCon, we announced our campaign with AMS & Cinevox to reissue over a dozen soundtracks from their catalog. We started with a reissue of Suspria at MondoCon and Beyond Fest, with the blessing of Argento. We then quickly announced our next release would be Tenebre (on stage at our soundtrack panel, sitting next to our fellow label guests).

Regarding Tenebre, all that needs to be said is that we made the decision to not release our completed and approved version of the soundtrack when Waxwork abruptly announced theirs. So I am slightly disappointed that the Waxwork Profondo Rosso has been released so close to ours as I don’t think it does anyone any favours in the hobby to be honest.

I can’t speak for the content that other labels have access to, and declare "definitive" of course but I do know that our release was painstakingly restored and edited by Fabio Capuzzo direct from the AMS/Cinevox vaults.

Yeah, this is nuts, i was at that panel and there was no indication that waxwork had those rights as well.

Not sure why Waxworks felt the need to unload all three at the same time either. Why not do Phenomena and Inferno now and wait until next year to do Profondo Rosso, give DW some breathing room on theirs. Guess it's all just cutthroat out there! Honestly I'd rather then focus on releasing stuff that is OOP rather than still in print and has 7 different versions. Just me though

Thanks @craiged for the FB info.

I am on the fence at the moment. It helps that I do not have a lot of money left to spend on anything at the moment.
I probably am passing on all of them at this time.
As Tenebre is still for sale I am guessing these will be for a while as well.
The idea of releasing these at the same time i consider to be ridiculous. You are talking about $100 without shipping. Of course no one is forcing anyone to buy. But still. It feels like too much.
But if there is someone you should blame that two labels are releasing these so close to each other it is AMS/Cinevox. They know who they license to. If anyone is making money on these it is them. And bless them for it.
While typing this I am coming to the conclusion that I don’t care about the politics behind these releases.
And that I am underwhelmed by these releases. Simply because it is too much.

I was wondering about that same thing, Bez (and everyone else). Who do these licenses come from if not the same place, namely AMS/Cinevox? And if they are coming from different places, is that because both labels are using different sources as with Tenebre and Profondo Rosso? I do think it's interesting, but am also sorry to see so many near-identical reissues coming at the exact same time.

I would like to hear from @RedGoblin on this. I will email him if he does not magically appear (as he does now and then) to drop the insider info.

Also, don't forget that labels might be chasing the Suspiria 2018 hype train to boost sales...

Please do!

Also, I streamed a track of Yorke's Suspiria 2018 score this AM and...well let's just say my hopes weren't high to begin with.

Technically Mondo does not allow order cancellation and considers all sales to be final. Not sure what's happened here with these two releases, i agree with Spencer it is tough and prob doesn't help anyone.

I'm all Goblin'ed out.

Dropping three LPs at the same time might be overkill. Maybe WW is trying to get ahead of another label that's going to drop Inferno/Phenomenon and just shooting their boutique-Italian-horror-licensed load all at once.

interesting read about this recent arms race between DW and WW. does not make collecting these easier at all...

since i do not own any of those three titles, i might pull the trigger on friday. the previous reissues did not convince me but these look fancy enough for my spoiled and lazy collector's ass
