Kwaidan is, as Spencer would say, essential.

So if it's something I can get for a similar price elsewhere, I order from somewhere else. Although the Mandy soundtrack seems to be in a weird position, I don't think they expected it to be as popular, even the place I ordered from ended up having to wait longer than anticipated to get it in, mine should be arrived early next week.
I'm having some problems myself with 2HD. Ordered Sodium Party, Correlations and both have not even shipped yet, but on 2HD's Facebook they made a post in late September that they were shipping them out soon. I also have another order of Snatcher and the Howarth Live album that have both yet to ship as well. I emailed today, I don't like to be impatient, but these titles have been out for a while now.

Not sure what is going on with Sodium Party & Correlations, they have been out for a while, unless he over sold his allotment from @Spun and is waiting for more to arrive. A simple email would suffice for stuff like that. Snatcher on the other hand is the blue repress and that's only been available for a month I think? And depending on when he got his shipment from Shiptoshore I could see it taking a little while but you should still have it by now IMO.

Yeah, shot an email, just odd, I pre-ordered Sodium/correlations in July so I was kinda getting impatient there. We'll see what they say

Got a message from Ben at Two Headed Dog the other day to say he now had *all* the vinyl he's ordered from me in hand, so you should be receiving a shipping notice very soon if you haven't already - fingers crossed!
Awesome. Thanks for the heads up!

@spun thanks for the update!

I was traveling this weekend, went to visit my brother. He took me to his favorite record shop, a place called Angry Mom Records. They had a decent selection but unfortunately my brother doesn't like to dig through records like I do so my time was limited. I stumbled across this and was intrigued. Adding more Morricone to my collection is never a bad thing and this one was conducted by my favorite Nicolai. What do you guys think of the record? I haven't been able to listen yet but I had never heard of it.

I also won a test pressing from Vehlinggo's podcast for Betamaxx's Lost Formats, not a OST but a great synth album.

These Ghibli lps turned up from amazon.co.jp.

So it turns out amazon.co.jp. sort out the customs duty for you at check out so no parcel force/royal mail duty+handling fee, as well as the delay. The records actually arrived super quick like around 4 days after release.

Stunning quality all round on these, print, build, pressing, mastering. The artwork is actually a touch sharper than the ogs and the colour spectrum seems more full.

The sleeves and obi are identical except for different cat numbers, the Animage logo is replaced with a Ghibli logo and a few bits of alternate kanji. The centre labels are different.

The pressing/mastering is a touch softer and smoother than the og but more resolved and there is a nice bit of headroom in the recording that really make the climaxes flourish.

I think anyone who was worried that they overspent on these will be very happy.

Also comes with download codes.

@dollarhyde what do you recommend out of those releases? I'm not familiar with them, it seems there are three different versions for each film. Some symphonic. What one's are the best in your opinion?

@inksb

I'm not one for lists but at a push

1. laputa OST
2. Nausicaa OST
3. Laputa Symphonic
4. Nausicaa symphonic
5. Nausicaa image
6. Totoro image

I haven't listed the laputa image album as I'm not really familiar with it. The same could be said for the Totoro OST, part of me wishes I had got that instead of the Totoro image LP as this one only has two tracks that I like on it :P (or rather the same track instrumental and vocal) but it is a very nice track and I know I would never fork out the ridiculous price for an og, even the 7" single!. Also the cover is pretty iconic.

If I'm correct there is not a symphonic suite for Totoro, more so a second image album (
it's called Totoro story book) that may be more acoustic, I don't know if it has vocals, the Totoro image LP is predominantly vocal.

The laputa OST, Nausicaa OST, Nausicaa symphonic, laputa image, are all gatefold.

Plus the laputa OST and image album come with an anime cel like film that is to be superimposed on the background in the gatefold.

Hope that helps

Extremely helpful, as Laputa is my favorite film of the bunch I'm glad that the OST seems to be the way to go on it. Could you explain what an image album is? I don't think I've ever heard that before these releases.

@inksb

Image albums are albums influenced by a anime movie, or more often a manga. Sometimes the image album is made before the film, as in the case of nausicaa(most likely from the manga that existed before the film), and was used to inspire the movie.
They are often very synth based and instrumental (for example the digital trip synthesizer fantasy albums) but this is not always the case.

This is a bit depressing, but bear with me.

On Monday, one of my dear friends, Michael, passed away. His cirrhosis of the liver finally caught up with him and just to give you an idea of what kind of guy he was I'll say this: he was an English and History teacher for high school level, loved his music, was an amazing guitar player and vocalist, and had a deep affection of extreme cinema and comics, and was one of the most intelligent people I ever met, and I was honoured to be his friend. I met Michael on an online forum like this one, a horror movie one, and we became fast friends we we met 'properly'.

Your mum will tell you if you meet a man on the internet that you shouldn't meet him in person; she's not entirely right all the time.

Today, a bunch of us joined his brother at his house, and we were able to take whatever we wanted, as the whole lot was going to an auction house, so we got to cherry pick things that we wanted. I reclaimed a couple of books Id given him over the years, and grabbed a bunch of albums, some of which he told me i 'had to listen to' so we could have future discussions about them.

He's gone and I didn't do my assigned homework, but I do now have the opportunity to listen to them. There was early Samhaim, Chelsea Wolfe (whom he insisted I'd love), The Oath, King Dude, Darkthrone, Neurosis, Candlemass... hell, a whole bunch that I now have an opportunity to absorb. I'll miss the bizarre facts he would have no doubt delivered during our inevitable discussions about them.

Only one soundtrack though, Dagored's Escape from New York, so thats pretty cool.

So not a bunch of cool pics to show you, but a small story to say that music, movies and comics brings us together and its a pretty cool thing.

Thanks guys. Im sorry but I didn't men for this to turn into a pity party, I was just stoked to have the opportunity to get SO much cool and unusual music into my collection. A bunch of us sat around and told funny stories of what he meant to us and whilst going in it felt ghoulish, coming out felt like a relief, and I felt that Michael would rather his preciouses go to all of us.

I even have an album of Alastier Cowley's Wax recording from the 20s and an autographed Bloody Hammers Ouija Board amongst the stuff!!
