This is something I've experienced from time to time (more often than I would like to admit), and I'm curious to hear about everyone else's experiences. I'm talking about times that you've overpaid for a record or bought multiple copies out of excitement(particularly to collect every version); maybe you spent money on a record you thought you would like and it sucked - never to be played again; or any sort of occasion where you looked back a week, months, or years later and said to yourself "what the hell was I thinking?".

C'mon - I know it's happened.

For instance, I bought the Quincy Jones score to "In Cold Blood" a few weeks ago. Found a super-clean copy with a near perfect sleeve in a shop for $30 - I had never seen this LP before and was perfectly happy. The next day I was in another shop about a mile away from the first, found the same LP - in shrink, looked like the vinyl had never been touched, perfect sleeve - for $10. THE HORROR! I felt like such a sucker...

So what did my stupid ass do? I bought that one too! I don't know if it's because I felt like I was getting a great deal or what.

The only saving grace is that it's an awesome piece of music.

I've got plenty more moments of foolishness, but I'll save 'em for later.

Good topic!

I got over excited by the Mondo Halloween release and ended up with 3 black versions because I thought it would be a feeding frenzy and I love that soundtrack...got me started really back when - X-mas gifts for a few!

Also lack of research before going to the record store...do we ever research before or have that list of what we are looking for...I bought a Nite-Liters Lp at one store open and found it $10+ cheaper and sealed at the next store...same day...it was a re-issue that the first store got fooled on

How many times have you brought home that Lp you were looking for only to find out you already had it...hasn't been a lot of money but plenty of times

^^^ that's why I'm starting to put my collection on my phone so I know exactly what I have at home and prevent unintentional double dipping.

I've been thinking about his thread since it started so I could come up with a good buyers remorse answer. I'm still thinking about it haha.

I definitely have the discogs app on my phone. It makes it that much easier to know exactly what you have when you're digging through those crates.

@strangevices is there a discogs app? Or are you referring to the mobile site. An app would be great
@strangevices is there a discogs app?
My thoughts exactly! I am about to hit the apple market. HAHA. I have this huge excel sheet on my phone and sometimes I can't get it to load from my e-mail because my store doesn't have great signal. :/

@bansel @ninjaqutie sorry it took me so long to respond. Yes, there's an APP for discogs!

Thanks! I will look into that. :) As for remorse, I've not regretted a purchase yet as far as the record itself; however, my wallet has. $500 on black friday was a bit of a shock to my system. I paid quite a bit for "The Shining" and "The Thing", but it was a price I was comfortable with. I don't see me going over $100 at the moment for one album, but that could could change in the future as my tastes and collection matures.

I don't understand how but I found The Thing in great condition for 10 bucks and The Shining for 15. I never luck out like that.

Wow, that's a great deal! I think I paid 50 for each of mine.

@strangevices, are you using The Milkcrate app or Discollector app? Those appear to be the only ones for iphone that integrate with discogs
I'm trying both out now.
Or are you an Android user? Perhaps they have different apps

One of the first records I bought when I started 12 years ago was a NM copy of The Shining for $5. Yep. I wish I had bought more back then, cause no one else was.

On topic though, I'd say Mondo's Halloween was a bit much, but I didn't lose money on them. I have started putting all my collection on Discogs so if I find something I'm not sure I have, I can check it on my phone. Also, I often will check my phone for prices on eBay or CollectorsFrenzy when I come across a record in a shop that is priced higher than $20 to see if it's a reasonable price. But that is only certain shops, as my regulars I know don't price too high so I usually don't fear for that there.

I just got the discogs app and it is confusing to me. LOL. I wish I could take other peoples posts and add them to my collection and edit them. :/ I need someone to show me how this thing works because it is hard to use on my phone and my computer died. Whomp whomp. I am going to convince my spousal unit to get a mac one of these days.

reelybored which app are you using? Milkcrate or Discollector?

I'm so confused as to if people are referring to the Discogs mobile site or an actual app downloaded from the app store. I don't see an actual app for Discogs for Iphone, only third party apps

@bansel discollector. Only thing im not liking is that there are no images at the moment which, according to them, they are working on

Yeh, the image thing kinda sucks. Apparently discogs put a cap on the number of images that can download. Same thing happened to milkcrate

Not sure if it quite counts here, but part of me regrets spending so long hunting down the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack on vinyl. I managed to get it for about £25 shipped in the end from some incredibly random site in the Czech Republic (I think it was, anyway), but now it's being repressed and is completely identical to the original release? Boo...

I also kinda regret getting the vanilla AoP13 and the plain green New York Ripper when I could have got the funkier variants from DWRC directly, but I do try to support my local record store.

I too regret the vanilla version. I didn't preorder because I wasn't sure if I wanted it, so I missed out on the twist version. Then I order and the bastards put back in the twist versions a few weeks later! WTF. LOL. :\ I'm not going to waste my money reordering though as I don't like the soundtrack THAT much. I also don't like that I expect a certain color wax and then get something else from my local shop. I'm not sure who their supplier is, but it never lines up with LITAs description. Most of the ones I get are solid colors. Boo.

buyers remorse: the new mondo blue sunshine and here comes the devil. wow, don't think i will ever listen to them again. instantly regretted it after listening. for some reason the sound quality is terrible. this plus the recent halloween is making me think of not buying mondo for vinyl anymore. true that just cd rips? let's see how the upcoming mondo the omen sounds......
