So I am currently addicted to this soundtrack, but am curious, it seems hard to find any info on a vinyl release, but doing some searching I've seen copies on ebay for $300

Can anyone shed some light on this? Was it ever released on Vinyl, is it impossible to get hold of? are the ones I've seen genuine?

It's possible that a vinyl release might have happened somewhere along the line, but I'd hazard a guess that it's a bit unlikely (happy to be proved wrong though!) - Nausicaa.net doesn't list one, and they're generally the authority for this sort of thing...

On CD, it's something that shouldn't be too hard to track down although like most Ghibli stuff there'll be dozens of reissues, different versions (there really is a reggae Totoro album) and bootlegs knocking about. I've never seen any actual Ghibli vinyl other than the Mondo thing from last year (itself originally released as a CD some years earlier) so I'd assume that any you do see is a Taiwanese boot.

The worst part is seeing sold listing for My Neighbor Totoro and knowing I wasn't the one to snipe it.

I also did not like the Mondo Ghibli release. Sounded like a really poor digital source to me. I have Nausicaa on vinyl and it sounds excellent, great dynamics.

My son and I are watching Castle in the Sky right now. The music isn't as good as Kiki but I think I like this movie better.
Watched Spirited Away last night.

@Si you're right there are several cd versions. A friend of mine ripped hers to listen on the move and its just amazing, and you know what its like, you always want the Vinyl!

I've yet to hear a duff Joe Hisaishi soundtrack. And much as I like his big, expensively-produced Ghibli things, it's about time one of these millions of soundtrack labels put out his Takeshi Kitano work on vinyl - Kikujiro and Hana-Bi are two of the best film soundtracks I've ever heard.
