Further to something that Light In The Attic mentioned when the Anthology came out, it would appear that Sub Pop's vinyl reissuing (or, in the case of I'll Take Care Of You, issuing for the first time) of their Mark Lanegan back catalogue isn't too far away, and as a boxset too! According to Mark Lanegan anyway, as someone asked him on Saturday before he played the Meltdown fest - and bloody lovely it was too.

His new record(s) will be announced imminently too, for release in October. Either an EP and an album, or a double. It gets very confusing.

Mark Lanegan's 'No Bells On Sunday', a 12" Vinyl-only EP (I guess downloads don't count as "only") is out on August 25th through Heavenly. Pre-orderings abound already, Rough Trade seem to be the cheapest at the mo at £9

This precedes an album in October, and the EP will be the 2nd disc of a deluxe CD set of the LP. I think.

By the way my replacement Afghan whigs LP2 arrived and sounded worse then the original one, they'd fixed the messed up track but the whole disc was just horrible and noisy. They're sending me another one, hoping that was just a bad one fom the end of the batch or something.

The review ties their sound into Goblin, Carpenter, Moroder, Hammer, and more...that probably covers just about everyones' interests here on the board. I don't know that I would put it in the realm of those composers, but it's great cinematic electronica.

Ghost Box have announced a new series of singles:

And on a vaguely-related note (but no vinyl, so sshh...), the lovely Clay Pipe Records will be taking orders tomorrow for the 3rd issue of Tyneham House, which will no doubt sell out very quickly indeed.
Releases from this label are always really beautifully put together and sound just as good as they look (if you can find a reasonably-priced version of Jon Brooks' Shapwick, snap it up - it's incredible), this will be something to treasure.

Well - the Tyneham House set sold out in under 3 hours today, so if you don't have it yet then it's fingers crossed for a 4th pressing...
On the plus side, Clay Pipe's next release is a new Jon Brooks record! '52' will be 500 vinyl copies only, not sure when yet but that one will vanish almost immediately if Shapwick's 3 releases are any measure...

I also like Plinth's music for smalls lighthouse which I'm listening too right now. Si, you probably have that, but if you dont, buy it before you take another breath!

Not a new OST, but not a regular non-OST either. This is James Blackshaw's live re-scoring of Fantomas. It sounds quite nice. Coming out soon as a 2xLP from Tompkins Square (which puts out consistently great material).

A Winged Victory For The Sullen's new LP, Atomos, is out on October 6th. I'm not sure if I can wait that long to be honest.

They've also added a 2nd date at the Barbican in London on the 19th of October, and I'm on Row A. Wondering now if I'll have to wear a suit.

@Si - I don't know if you picked up the 12" single from Winged Victory that came out a month or so ago to help promote the upcoming Atomos album, but I was really disappointed in it. It was such a dull listen. I spun it two or three times, and just never once got into it. I really love their first album too, so maybe I'm just expecting too much? Who knows, but it really is keeping me from being interested in this new album.

Got it here - and I agree, it doesn't quite grab me the way that the last one did, at least not yet.
It's a tricky thing, as the first album was so perfect (Steep Hills Of Vicodin Tears still takes my breath away like no other piece of music in the past 10 years) it was going to be a hard follow, and Atomos is based on a much more kinetic thing (it's for a dance piece) so it's strange to hear them being a bit more upfront about being minimal. When I saw them 2 years ago it was one of the strangest and most incredible shows I've ever attended, so the Barbican one's got a lot of work to do as well. Can't wait though

^^I loved the first album, saw them live a couple of years back and enjoyed it (at a folk venue in Camden). Still can't quite get past their cringe-inducing band name though. Sounds like a GCSE Emo band.

I'll definitely check out the new album though. I'm a massive Stars of the Lid fan, so I always check out these side projects. However, I do wish Adam Wiltzie would just get on with the new SotL album instead, cos that's the good shit! AWVftS are quite over-rated in comparison.

EDIT: Er...Just seen the pre-order price (£22.99) - maybe not then! That's expensive even by Erased Tapes' standards.

I'm a fan of awvfts through Dustin O'Halloran rather than Adam (although the record he did with sleepingdog is gorgeous), when I heard his piano-playing with the Soulsavers and then his solo Lumiere album which remains a favourite.

Ah, I see. For whatever reason, Dustin's solo stuff never stood out for me. I think there was a lot of similar minimal piano stuff around at the time. I do have Lumiere - think it's time to revisit it then . I have to say that new extract from AWVftS sounds very promising indeed. More diverse than their debut, I think.

As for prices, yeah, it's all a bit random. But Erased Tapes do have quite a reputation for over-pricing stuff.

New Mark Lanegan stuff unveiled!
There's still much I can't say, but Phantom Radio (out in October) will be preceded by the vinyl-only No Bells On Sunday EP in the UK on August 25, for which a track became available on the QT last night on iTunes (so, not vinyl-only. But it's close enough. No CD until the album arrives, when it'll be part of a 2CD deluxe set).

He's changed his tune a bit.

@jdubtxn, ordered yesterday. Popmarket has some really good deals especially with the free shipping aspect. I bought a 9 LP Black Sabbath set for just a little over $100 recently. I guess the free shipping is only for orders in the US though

Pop Market has the entire Depeche Mode studio catalog up for just under $200. The older stuff are the newest represses, but I've heard mostly good stuff about them.
