@Ghostfires, sounds like you've made a rationale decision there! I don't get the need to have multiples of the same thing or get a reissue of something because it has a few more words on it. Sure if i don't have that record Ill go for the best release I can but thats it. Like the DW reissues. Yep they look cool, love the halloween II but I have a copy of it and thats fine.

In my mind, I would have thought stuff like the DW reissues were designed to expand the market share rather than expecting the same people to buy the same record again?

I've long given up on listening to marketing, limited edition this and that, only 300 of etc etc. Like the time I bought the ultimate back to the future dvd trilogy. And then they released the blu ray, then the extended version, then a 25th anniversary edition , then the 4 disc ultimate, then the collectors tin, and then....and then folks ..... we get the augmented reality edition!! yep thats right!!

I'm fully with @Antimax just buy some descent records and play the life out of them.

quick question do you guys buy everything ? It seems lots of people get caught up in the hype around variants at the moment & panic buy on fear of missing out ...

I have to say I pass over a lot of soundtracks coming out at the moment as musically I know they are going to get a lot of rotation.

I always like there to be a standard version of our releases out there (under 20 quid) and honestly I think you'll see more of that next year from DW . Originals is looking really good for new music too we just got the first side of music from Pye Corner Audio and it is sounding amazing.

@Deathwaltz, for me personally it isn't about getting everything or following the hype.. I started to late with collecting as a soundtrack enthusiast.
Also, when I bought new sound-equipment not to long ago I really started to enjoy records on a whole different level.
First I had an enormous dvd/blu-ray collection.. now everything is digital (except for the classics or the really good ones,I still own them on a medium). But with my music, I like to have the real thing.. Enjoy the hard work that is put in to it. And sure, I don't need to have everything.. Like a marshmellow scented 7" single with 2 songs everyone already has.. But for someone who just recently jumped on the bandwagon, a repress or re-release of every "old" DW release that is sold out at the moment, is verry welcome and exciting! (For example )

So yeah, with great releases comming out these days.. It seems like i'm hoarding or following the hype. But we all got this mysterious vinyl toxin running trough our vains that makes it just plain old fun! I really love it and enjoy sharing it with my friends. And as for this forum, I don't wake up and go to sleep without checking in here first.. Love it!

I'm afraid I am going to have to be MORE stringent in my purchases. My work has decided that no personal packages are to be delivered now. So, I can't hide my vinyl anymore. LOL. All deliveries my be made at home. I also liked them being made here so they weren't left outside in the weather or so they weren't snatched up by someone else. ::sigh:: I have all my subs set here, so I am going to have to have them changed too. ARGH! I've passed on a few lately, so I don't think it will be too hard to switch.

To answer the question posed by Spencer -

I do tend to buy multiple copies of soundtracks that I like, simply because I cannot determine which color-way I'll enjoy most without having it in hand. Sometimes these things are hyped so much and sold out before a picture is ever posted of the actual record, and in that case. Do I keep all the extra variants? No. I try to sell them off immediately. I also do not buy to be a completest, especially albums I won't listen to.

I've skipped some (well, one) DW album, several Mondo albums, and quite a few of the random one-off releases from lesser known labels. I will continue to do so probably even more so now than ever...simply because a lot of the good stuff has been released.

This might sound a little close-minded, but there honestly can't be that many more great soundtracks waiting to be released with as many labels there are now pumping out soundtracks every single month. At least not ones worth $25-35.

Twin Peaks, Shining, Christine, Thing, & Big Trouble are all soundtracks I want to own modern pressings of...but after those, I'm running out of things I really think are a great idea to spend big money on.

I am definitely burnt on the reissue mayhem - which I am taking as a good thing - both for me and (eventually) for the marketplace.

I am slowing way down on my new vinyl purchases, taking more time to separate the wheat from the chaff - and trying to used the saved funds to buy original releases (which has always been the bulk of my collection).

If things don't slow down and find some sort of a manageable pace, the bottom is going to drop (fast).

The beauty of the Internet is you can get a listen to pretty much anything that I s released in one form or another.

I tend to stick to buying soundtracks in the style I like rather than everything new just to build a collection. I always watch Milan and invada as their releases tend to be ones I know I'll want.

For me I find it harder to resist boomkats recommendations than anything else!!

Yes, there's an element of "gotta get this now, cuz I'm not a rich dude, I need it, and I don't wanna get my ass fucking flipped!"

The flipper thing makes me feel physically ill, goes against ALL of my ideas, principals and joy in buying music, and generally pisses on my chips to be honest. If I were in a room with a self-confessed flipper - they'd fucking hear about it in no uncertain terms. It's really hard not to feel that some labels feed it/could do more to discourage it somehow.....but basically, I get what I really feel like I NEED (musically, for my collection) and suffer the financial consequences hahaha!

I'm with you too, ghostfires. It's too much now. If I bought all the soundtracks coming out all the fucking time, I wouldn't ever be able to buy any other genre. It's really reached a level of saturation that's kind of disheartening. I used to get so excited to pick up every soundtrack that came out but I find myself not giving a shit about most of the releases coming out. Not because they're bad or even that I don't want them, but because I straight up can't afford to keep up with it anymore. It's a total drag and I miss when it was mainly Death Waltz.

If I can't get it in the UK at a sensible price, then I don't buy it. I'm not paying $25 to have a record shipped & then paying customs & excise duty on anything over £18 if it gets held up.

I've got one record on preorder from Piccadilly Records at the moment. There's some stuff I would've bought this month if I'd had any money like Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin, but I'll wait cos there's plenty of copies about.

@Peek-a-boo, I think thats the key, its those releases that you know will be round for at least few months. Things like the latest Jon Brooks that you knew would be gone (and it was) within the day/few days so you have to buy if you want it or pay £50+ down the line, or pass on the release.

I find that the thing I'm the most concerned with this past year is sound. I know that sounds trite, but I'm not popping on here to dog the board for chatting more about the package than the music or its fidelity. Far from it. I enjoy the different packages, truly. That said, I find myself often buying the simplest version of a release not just because I can trust a plain black (or other single color) pressing to sound better, but because I don't have to waste hours (or days) fretting over being one of the first few in on a drop. Another side benefit of the plainer vinyl is that it is often sold at a lower price, particularly on the second hand market. In my perfect world, a quiet black pressing would come in lush packaging, but I'd always sacrifice packaging to have a label's resources spent on the best possible source material and/or mastering. This hasn't always been the case for me what with beautiful, elaborate soundtrack releases becoming the norm these past few years, but especially this past year, my priorities have begun to shift in full. Particularly so when I own multiple pressings of a reissue and the digital downloads sound better/quieter than the finished product.

i don't think the labels are going to run out of quality material to release any time soon. there's tons of obscure, great stuff out there that has been forgotten about. Surf Nazis is a great example of that. Kind of forgettable movie, great music. Cinevox could reissue a different album from their back catalog every month for the next 10 years and i'd still want to buy every one. Finders Keepers has been releasing tons of Czech and Eastern European stuff that most of us have never heard of. No one has really scratched the surface of Asian cult cinema music, as well as India, Russia, Africa etc etc. Not to mention new films coming out every year. I'm sure there's plenty to come

Anyone know what happened to the Daft Punk - tron Legacy LP reissue that was to come out this month.? Now says discontinued on soundstage, and i asked my local store and they said it was no longer on the list of offerings. There are a few listings on ebay,urgh, that say it will ship on the 31st. Did anyone get a cancellation or update, really wanted to pick this up.

Update: Now see the other thread talking about it...

Anyone know where i can get a copy?
