I've managed to pick up a copy of SN,DN now...and it processed fine. Threw in the re-issue of Prince of Darkness too, am having this lot sent to my UK address though (this time around), to save on the postal charges.

i think i am gonna go ahead and place my order. i would hate for it to pop up on LITA later today though for a fraction of the price (due to me being in the US). anyone heard any confirmation about whether LITA will have them or not? DWs release email did say "LTD TO 400 COPIES WORLDWIDE (EXCLUSIVELY FROM DEATH WALTZ)" for the deluxe SN,DN and CHRISTMAS EVIL, which seems to be clear that at least the deluxe SN,DN and CHRISTMAS EVIL are only available through them, with maybe the standard SN,DN being available elsewhere at some point (1000 copies of that one). fuck it, i'm ordering from DW.....

I promise this question is NOT condescending at all. I'm truly just very curious...

Are you guys all buying the SN,DN soundtrack (I can't comment on the other OST because I've never heard it) because:

A) You buy everything from DW no matter what, you just love DW!
B) You love the movie and all that goes with it?
C) You honestly think the music sounds good and enjoy listening to it?

I'm really curious because digital synth scores, 99% of the time, turn me off instantly. I don't like the poor style of sound emulation from the dated ROMs/samplers or the thinness of the digital synths. I know this is personal taste, and that is why I'm asking...because I've never really known anyone that actually says they love digital synth scores. Not saying I'm judging or think it's stupid...buy away, go for it! I'm just morbidly curious is all.

Would love to know if LITA will have these or if the language of "STRICTLY LTD ONE OFF PRESSING FOR 2014" means we will see it stateside.

Really don't mean to be negative, but $102.32 for two releases shipped to the states is a little out of my wallet range.

Agreed. I haven't bought everything DW has put out, but have a strong affinity for lo-fi synth scores. I am also a huge horror fan, so that factors into it as well.

Here's my take. When they put “LTD TO 400 COPIES WORLDWIDE (EXCLUSIVELY FROM DEATH WALTZ)” on the page, I believe that is referring to the variant edition, not the release has a whole. So the split color variant is 400 copies, but the red/green version is 1000 copies. I would guess that LITA would get some copies of that SN, DN release in stock, since it's a big number. For Christmas Evil, DW only has the one version for sale, limited to 400, so I would assume that would be better to get from DW direct since we don't know if LITA will get it, or if they do, it's gonna sell fast. Also, ordering from DW gets you the free mix CD, so you're getting an extra when ordering from them. For me in the USA, buying both with my discount code, it came to $69.

Ah. Sadly, I don't have a discount code, so this is all full price.

No guys - I'm not asking why do you buy from DW...I'm asking very specifically about the Silent Night, Deadly Night album itself. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. I understand fully why people buy DW records, and I definitely get having a love for horror scores.

My loss of understanding occurs when cheap and cheesy digital synth scores creep in. Again, not attempting in any way to be rude or condescending...just really curious if people are into this style of soundtrack for the music itself.

hey @ghosty, for me, i buy anything DW releases (so far), albeit just 1 copy of each release (i'm not THAT crazy), and i am not a subber. i have not been disappointed yet. there are some that are a little strange for my taste, but that doesn't mean i'll never listen to them. the funny thing is, i have always been a horror movie score fan. and now that a few labels are really championing the genre and reissuing so much stuff, i really have nearly stopped buying any other kind of music. a lot of the things on my discogs wantlist i just ignore now if they are not soundtrack/score or related. the DW presentation of the deluxe editions blows anything else out of the water, so i'll keep taking my chances. i have also picked up everything from waxwork and OWS. i have skipped quite a few from MONDO recently, but the ones i have picked up are still fantastic (still waiting on IRON GIANT to go no sale!).

@ghosty - SN,DN falls under my response to your original inquiry about DW releases. i honestly don't think i have ever seen the film, or if i have, it was MANY years ago and i don't remember anything about it, but i'll take a gamble. i do like the lo-fi cheesy synth scores usually, so i am sure this will be a fun listen.

At $102.52 including shipping, I just can't even come close to picking these up right now. I'll just have to wait until they become available stateside through LITA or otherwise.

They look great though!

Well, I think it is all a matter of personal taste. I imagine that you like a lot of lo-fi black metal based on your posting. What is the difference between, say Lustre, and something like this score? It is all about atmosphere and how one chooses to feel enveloped in music. Sure, there may be some cheesy tracks, but I think it is about capturing a mood. Sometimes that happens to come directly from listening or from remembering watching the movie as a kid.

Yeah, I want these BAD, but I just can't afford these now. ::sigh:: So sad I can't pick these up. :( I'm really hoping LITA brings these stateside. Who DOESN'T want horror Christmas albums!?!

SNDN

LITA will have some of the general retail version but none of the deluxe colourways we have.
Sorry it is expensive the packaging and the licensing combined added up.

The score is in no way cheesy Ghost , in fact I would say it is far from it. It is super creepy and pretty amazing. The christmas songs are cheesy but they are an amazing time capsule from 1984.

Look up Perry on Wiki he is a legend ... Super funny guy and totally humble...
He has serious music industry chops...

Good to know there will be a cheaper version. Sad I'll be missing out on the deluxe, but at least I will have a chance to get the music and that is more important to me this go around. :D I love the fact you offer different levels to your customers. ::HUGS:: Oh poo, I will miss out on the CD though! Shizznizzle :(

I understand your point about the composer being a great guy, and that he is good at creating music. I'm not saying what I think to knock his abilities at all...I just truly find this to be an extremely cheesy and cheap sounding score. I listened to it all the way through, and just cannot find any interesting parts.

I get that if you're a fan of the movie and you can visualize the parts you enjoy as you listen to the score...I get that pleasure, but as a stand-alone piece of music (which some of you would argue that no scores are meant to be a stand-alone piece of music!)...I just cannot get past the sound of the synths, the thin digital characteristics of it all.

I'm definitely not saying anything about how DW shouldn't release this, or people are dumb for buying it - I own lots of weird shit that people would say "what the fuck is that and why did you spend money on it!?"

@ghost to answer your earlier question I bought it cos I thought it sounded awesome. Really enjoyed it.

I don't have a policy on buying all DW stuff, i would buy the reissues of stuff I own for example, but they do seem to put out a lot of good stuff.

I have a sub as I like the variety they do, 80% is on the money for me and I'll continue that route.

Looks like both are just about sold out. Add either one to your cart and "we don't have enough stock to fulfill your order"...

They are both up on Lita I like glittery pink vinyl as much as the next but Americans do not pay the crazy UK inflation. Especially for movies from the American movie industry getting the best versions overseas. Where's that Mondo influence? Move shop here. Where the fans are. In the home of movies themselves. Revolution2. Throw those records in the Boston Harbor.
