I attempted the "order two" plan that someone on here (was it Disco?, maybe Cult?) has mentioned a few times, and it worked. plus i had a friend who wanted the record no matter what so i didn't even have to worry about getting rid of the other one.

Very nice, Mr. Vos. Might I inquire, is that the mono or the stereo version?

@nick, I love that Donaggio score, nice!

My copy of Pet Sematary came in yesterday and it's black. Personally, I am very happy to have gotten black. I am at the point where I want black or a solid/transparent color. Too much dissatisfaction with the splatters, splits, and haze editions lately.

@tim - I'm in the same boat buddy.

Recently I've been noticing a trend in the splatter type vinyl where it's noisy during the change in colour.

I'd love to see more black options, DW & OWS are great for offering it up, would be nice if everyone were able to do so.

Amazing if it's true that they just 'found' 30 mint copies some 35 years later, as unlikely as that sounds...

I'm now imagining they must have a warehouse resembling the ending of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'.

A good story anyway... gives a whole new spin on the vinyl 'holy grail' & I'm happy to have one.

Thing is you say you want Black but when we press it , it takes forever to sell
In fact we only sell 100 of every black issue we do ....
I kind of love FK only doing black vinyl.

Agreed. Loving my Basic Black subscription.

I do have a few colored FK releases. Yamasuki on red vinyl, Science Fiction Dance party on Blue Splatter and the Vannier box set (red and white vinyl).

Maybe this is the hipster in me a bit, and I'm sorry for that, but I love colored vinyl.

Don't get me wrong, i love the music the most, and I will rarely blind buy anything just because its pretty, BUT, i love a good package design as much as the music itself, and when the medium itself is part of that design, I lose my mind over it.

So even though its about the music, sure, when Spencer posts heavyweight textured sleeves with swirl/haze/splatter/translucent...etc, I'm going for it every time.

By the same token, some records look nicest in black. it all depends on the design. HOTD is a great example of this, the red splatter is very subtle, and perfect for what it is, but the record is mostly clean, dark, black wax. very cool.

I was thinking of starting a thread about our strange love/hate relationship with colored vinyl. I will pay extra to import an elaborate colorway versus picking up a black or clear vinyl version available domestically. I know it's the art lover in me that appreciates such beautiful objects that plays amazing music, but I also remember my early DJ'ing days where colored vinyl was avoided whenever possible due to sound quality issues. I find it incredibly interesting that some of us are obsessed with both the artistic quality of the vinyl colorway as well as the audiophile quality of the pressing. It's almost like you can't be both, yet we try to be with every release.

@deathwaltz - would you ever do a deluxe black sub? I'd love that.

That's pretty depressing....
This reinforces the notion that the soundtrack-on-vinyl-resurgence is being kept afloat by collectors of colorful novelty items and the ebay flippers that cater to them.
If regular black versions really only sell 100, while some 50$ "multicolored-swirl-speckled-jizz-filled variant" sells 2000 copies within a few hours (And generates most of the postst on this board in the process), one has to start wondering who buys them, and what their main interest is, particularly when it is a fact of life that multicolored vinyl is often noisier ,softer and more prone to pressing defects and wear.

I have never subscribed to the whole "hipster-bashing", but I do wonder what will become of this hobby/industry once these alledged hipsters move on to some new fad.

Edit: It's not my intention to insult anyone, but it does worry me that my beloved hobby apparently needs these useless and often detrimental gimmicks to remain commercially viable.

I don't have any issues with the colour way stuff, virtually everything sounds decent now but in saying that we all know black vinyl sounds best and I own enough coloured vinyl to keep me going.

I'm a DW deluxe subber because of the whole package, each release is superb & I'll continue to sub the deluxe package until (fingers crossed) a deluxe black sub is available :)

As a punter it's very easy to get carried away with all these variants and coloured versions.

Of course, if something is only available in black vinyl, who cares and everyone is happy.

But if there are also 100, 500, 1,000 or whatever printed on atomic puke splatter vinyl, the natural primitive urge is to grab the most limited... and from a label's perspective the more limited, the less work it is to shift stock I guess, which certainly chimes with DW's comments. Interesting.

I always like when labels modify the black variant as they would a colorway, like Plague Black or something cooler than that. I'd have to look into it.
Black records are elegant, but colorways really do a number on my pleasure centers. The way they like to get you nowadays is to offer a heavyweight black variant in lower quantities. Then you have to face yourself.

Hi all, longtime follower first time post!

I think House of the Devil deluxe edition is the perfect compromise on a colour variant and black vinyl. As said before the red splatter is very subtle but just adds a touch of glamour to a perfect all round release.
