There should be other ways to make a record appealing to collectors and music lovers alike without compromising its sonics. How about Exclusive bonus tracks? extensive (new) liner notes? Production stills? Photo album? A holographic label? Pop-up art in the gatefold? Hell, why not go the "Immersion" way and throw in some marbles, coasters and a stuffed animal or something... (I know those last ideas sound childish, but still vastly preferable over some noisy splatter variant)

[/quote]Exactly this. If I can get the blackest circles in the deluxest packages (from anywhere), then that is my preference. As things stand, I occasionally choose package over quality (not because of the vinyl color, but liner notes and sturdier jackets!). This is why I have a Deluxe Sub with DWRC, but only purchased the basic black Carpenter release from Sacred Bones.

man, i really missed out on a huge score today. there was an estate sale in some random parking lot in town, and a few friends of mine came up on first pressings of a ton of stuff, including Manhattan Baby, Island of the Fish Men, Popol Vul's Nosferatu, Gli Angeli Del 2,000, original Goblin stuff, sealed big box VHS of Make them Die Slowly, Tombs of the Blind Dead, 7 Doors of Death, among others. All for $.50 to $1.00.

By the time they let the cat out of the bag, the vinyl had been cherry picked pretty bad, but I still managed to come up on about 50 mint DVDs (mostly blue underground, alot of them sealed), and these:
















can't remember the last time i listened to a cd, but it seemed stupid to pass these up.
