For that batch, 'somewhat decent' at a 'local' is definitely worth snatching up! Jealous.

picked up oldboy today new for $14 at my local record store. what a deal!

i went ahead and updated the US oldboy entry on discogs to be red/orange swirl, and added pictures, because i have yet to see a red vinyl version, which is what it was labeled as. if anyone has a solid red version, let me know and i will correct it and add another entry for this one.

picked up a few other non-ost related things, but i won't bore you guys with that here! :)

Morricone a quiet place in the country

Pleasantly surprised by this release. Very impressive all round package. nice satin finish sleeve, lots of liner notes, solid piece of vinyl and from a very brief spin a solid master and pressing, nice clear and rich sound.

Released on a new sublabel "omni" from roundtable, my first roundtable vinyl.

Also check the coming soon releases from the obi.

Just ordered "kill!"

Dollarhyde, thanks for the review. I've been on the fence about this one, but you may have just nudged me off. The Kill! score is a sweet release as well with excellent sound. This family of labels does solid, solid work.

@mateo thanks, looking forward to Kill!

As for the morricone, from a brief listen, the music itself is very much on the avant garde, uneasy listening side of morricone's work. Which I know is not everyone's cup of tea.

Im keen to here more about 'il sorriso del grande tentatore'. I Have the og, its a brilliant score but, my copy anyway, sounds very muffled in places when there are a lot of layers of music going on. Hopefully it will get the same remastering treatment as this release.

@PaulZaza

Wow - now we know why the Stay Puft version is so pricey... less about the music, more about the packaging! Seems like a lot of trouble to go to for what is basically a 7-inch single, albeit in 12 inch format. Lovely stuff, but they could have done this treatment for a full score, surely? Good to see another of your videos on here!

Any excuse to put up a close of this great image!
Just upgraded my black to the variant. Bought for £60 sold my black copy for £65!!!
Top condition too, not always that bothered about the variant, but did want this one. It'll be interesting to see DW's version next year.

@dagar - ha! those were the days! i have the black vinyl edition of MOND-001 that i bought from someone on ebay. i remember seeing maniac go on sale from mondo and thought, eh, i can just pick that up later. then mondo blew up with the records and i ended up paying $125 to "get it later". CRAP! but, that's all water under the bridge now.

Yeah that's the way it goes sometimes, I've missed a few albums recently - but there's just so many goddam great albums we can't get 'em all. One day I will get my hands on a copy of that Maniac! I really like the score, I only discovered Mondo just after it was sold out everywhere! ;)
