I can't wait to see what DW (and Mondo) have in their pockets for 2015, i really trust Spencer and his choices as he never let us down...but i am really really sad that DW subscription is no more...i am a subber since sub 2, loved how these packages used to arrive at my home regularly (my wife used to call them my christmas gifts, as they always seemed to make me happy), loved not having to worry about a record being sold out in a couple of minutes...

I just woke up to the email, and now and reading this. Since it's all out there now, I will say, I am sad to see the subscription go. After hearing Spencer's reasoning on that, I can understand, but I'm disappointed. I'd say the main thing I like about the subscription is not having to worry about getting the nicer version of each release. Spencer said that it will be easier to get releases now, so if that's the case, then that's a good thing for everyone. As a fan, I just want to be able to get the version of a release with the nicest packaging. Maybe he's dropping all the different versions all together, so it's just one version of packaging. Maybe no more 3 and 4 different colors for each release. I hope he doesn't adopt the random variant model though, as that feeds flippers. But I trust that Spencer will take care of us fans, so we'll have to see how it goes.

Spencer, I take you at your word. As a fan, my main concern is being able to get releases without feeling like I have to give up my day to hit F5. That and knowing what I'm getting (ie - no random variants). I'm sure 2015 will be great for Death Waltz, looking forward to it!

HAHAHA....oh man that's....truly horrifying...

i'm looking forward to it, i started this reissue collecting with MONDO's poltergeist way back when, and i've always liked their poster designs from even before that. sure, they seem to get hit by flippers more than others but maybe seeing the way Spencer has kept his label relatively free of that nonsense is one of the reasons MONDO asked to have him run their label, also remember that with combined resources and such, that could mean larger print runs, easier product access, and excellent packaging. not to mention...selections curated by someone who has shown time and time again that he can dredge up the most obscure, unheard euro horror soundtrack gem, and all of us will jump on it like its a sealed 1st pressing of Sgt. Pepper with all four signatures on it. so yeah...change is scary...but the possibilities for the stuff that could be coming our way...just wow!

and to Spencer and Justin and all the cats at DW/Mondo...I'm ready...Thrill Me

@deathwaltz A lot of this sounds promising, but you must be kidding about the sanctity of your subscription service. You did not invent or pioneer it, so what do you care if other labels also offer one?

I am kind of bummed about the sub, but ah hell, I am really looking forward to what is in store. Up till this point, I had maintained a complete DW collection, but if that has to step aside for better releases and more releases, that is fine. In this instance, change is good. Here is to a fantastic upcoming 2015.

"Phil
the reason I have stopped the sub has nothing to do with me joining Mondo.
It has everything to do with rival labels offering subs which makes the sub less special and soundtrack labels ever merging into one undefinable mass of vinyl."

I don't think that a subscription is special per se, it's what one puts in it that matters. It translates readily to horror-themed magazines, of which there are a few, each offering something the other does/can not, but they all offer subscriptions. It's cool.

I might be the only person that doesn't care about subs! I always felt too constricted by the whole idea.

I hate the idea of paying for something I don't get to see or hear first. These subs never give you the full picture either as to what they plan to release within a sub before you pay for it...therefore you could really get screwed if you buy 6 records in a sub, and only enjoy 2 or 3. Everyone always responds with "well just sell them!" Uh no, I'll just not buy into the program!

I don't believe that the labels intend to screw their customers over at all, but this whole secrecy thing that all labels are guilty of has always been one of the absolute worst components of this entire reissue surge. That's why I just wait for the actual release, search out sound samples if none are provided, and if I enjoy it - I'll order.

Any chance, Spencer, that you could get Mondo to lower their shipping charges? $8 to ship a vinyl record within the U.S. is pretty damn high. I can ship a record media mail with a tracking number, NEVER EVER HAVE DAMAGE ISSUES EITHER, and all for $4.50. Some people might say oohh that price difference isn't too bad, but when you add up how many times you buy single records because you want to get it before it sells out, that excess shipping charge adds up.

I'll look into it for you.

What if you could park orders to ship together ?

Spence I have a quick question for you (if you've all ready answered it sorry) with subs ending will you still be pressing a set number on plain ass black vinyl? I really enjoyed my B2B sub this last go round. The sound quality was stellar throught the sub.

Thanks!

I thought I'd be disappointed at the end of the subscription era - I have been there as a subscriber from the beginning - but in fact was thinking of ending with sub 4 anyway and find myself optimistic about plans and releases for 2015.

Most of the future releases I have heard about are very exciting prospects! I have never been disappointed with any of the main releases, but at least a couple of each sub I could live without (just not my cup of tea), so now I can be more selective. Have never been as attracted to Mondo releases, so glad that the the two entities will stay separate. Spencer - what would you say will be the main differentiation between the two labels releases? DW more horror and less mainstream movie soundtracks?

Anyway - I will stick with OSW subscription and that will be the only one. Next year I'll be cutting back on re-releases and returning to more original dusty vinyl digging.

@Spencer - Yes! Paying for a record, and having it stored until another is released, then combining them would be great. That is the biggest complaint I've always had with LITA - if you would release a shipping schedule, I would love to pay immediately when a record is released, then have the label or distributor hold it until something else I plan to pay for ships. Now, this sounds extremely selfish, and I'm sure is asking a lot of the label and/or distributor - but it truly would help the customers save serious money over the year on shipping charges.

I guess a good example would be if DW & Mondo ship from the same place...DW releases an album in mid-January, and Mondo announces something new shipping in February - could I pay for the DW record, have it wait for the Mondo release, and have both ship out together...hopefully saving on the shipping fees. That would be great.

Question Time with Spencer Hickman....... But i've had another thought

Will the new Mondo/DW shop have distributed titles? and if not how will I get exposure to all the great stuff you tell me I need that I never knew I did? Stuff like Tired Tape Machine and Night Terrors! I need these things in my life!

Phil
We will not only be carrying on the disrtributed titles but expanding them
the only difference is we'll be calling them 'Selects' as in Mondo selects ...
I think the idea is I will do a blog post highlighting the title with sound & video clips to explain why we have chosen it ....

Like I said the Mondo/DW merger will free up a lot of my time so I can get creative...

Being able to park releases and ship en masse would be great, yes!

BTW, is "The Raid" release the bonus for sub 4 or is it part of sub 4? I'd love to hear it, but I don't know if I'll get it as part of the Bare Bones subscription (gets the sub but not the bonus).

Sorry everybody, got a bad day at work. I mean I don't like change and i'm affraid of this. I get the felling that DW will follow the path of Mondo whereas the fact it is the responsabillity to Mondo taking for example the old DW.

I have listened carefully The Raid thanks to the link you send us and I don't be touched by it, in front of all 2014 releases in my point of view it is faraway a SurfNazis or SlumberPartyMassacre...

In the future I take note of the fact I need to more argue my reply and improve my English.
