I've read back a while on the thread and it seems it was confirmed the shipping would be from the US for the merged Mondo/DW. Unless shipping rates are low, I expect to be buying retail versions rather than from the Mondo site. High shipping costs plus import handling/taxes makes for expensive records. I'd think this must be better for US collectors though - some win, some lose (possibly).

I may be misunderstanding, but I was thinking more about exclusive versions, which, if only available from Mondo online, could be more expensive than now from the UK DW site. I don't think the cost at the local record shop in the UK will necessarily be more expensive.

Details are a little fuzzy on the whole shipping/distro front, but will doubtless become clear on the 13th or thereabouts.

If there are still deluxe versions alongside the standard, perhaps the new UK/Europe distributor for Mondo/DW will be getting both, the way LITA has in the past for US-based folks?

Sure Mr Hickman has considered all this and has a plan. Doubt he will want to let down any of his 'Hickman-iacs' and hasn't to date ;)

Mondo will be doing all shipping of exclusive DW , Originals & Mondo records going forward which will free me up to license more records and be more creative, But we'll have copies for sale both in our store in Margate and the gallery in Austin.
Mondo and DW will have both a US & UK distributor which will service record stores direct.

Is there any idea what is happening with queries raised on the old web store? I had a problem with my copy of Silent night,Deadly night that I raised before Christmas that I haven't heard anything about...

So us EU folks won't really be able to get the DW deluxe versions anymore unless we order from Mondo? That's a little sad... But lucky for the US fans who now have both Mondo, DW and WW - as well as OWS exclusives through LITA.

that's a very bad news for death waltz european collector. I'm from Italyy and discovered dw records in a temporary rough trade store. I've bought dw records both from rough trade and death waltz via web - as in Italy there are no record store selling records from dw.
Records shipped from us not only will be charged from shipping but also with custom duties - being a very very expensive items to buy; also it will be unsafe as this procedure sometimes is ending with parcel missed by the postal service.
Spencer please - let your shop in uk in charge of shipping your records in Europe - take into account your fan from south of europe that are not so lucky to leave in London or in place where vinyl culture is more respected
Or give us advice where to contact your distributor in europe

Bad news indeed. It might well be bye bye Death Waltz then. Life goes on.

Do we contact Mondo about stuff we have had delivered recently? My copy of Beyond the Black Rainbow delivered this week is Donald Ducked ...

Gutted but I gotta say I won't be buying hardly any DW from mondo. As a former subber I'd love to pick up all the deluxe versions but can't afford the high shipping prices to the uk. Especially if there are going to be a lot of releases throughout the year. Will cherry pick 2 or 3 throughout the year I really want and give the other releases I'm not mad about a miss.

I'm not criticising, merely disappointed. I think the merger will make a better label(s) combined than separately. I don't think anyone would grudge Spencer and DW getting bigger and making the most of what I'd imagine is the biggest potential market in the US. However, personally, it will be disappointing to miss out on deluxe or exclusive editions in the UK. To be less than the import VAT threshold a record would need to be less than $25, which seems unlikely - anything over that and you'd be paying an additional 20% VAT plus handling fees (£8-12, depending on who delivers) plus $20 shipping - min £40, compared with, say, £30 delivered previously. That'd price me out of regular purchases for sure. Good luck to all though, I think it's great for Spencer, DW and US folks.

I think I've always understood the increased postage to the UK on Mondo but recently it's just been ridiculous. It was ok when you could combine records but now the postage is just insane.

One record is $24.15
Two Records are $46.45
Three Records are $68.75
Four Records are $92.90

It used to be $25 for two records which wasn't too bad.I'm sure it won't stop me from picking up the odd release was just really hoping for some better news.

Wasn't aware that Mondo shipping to UK/Europe had been upped for more than one LP - last time I bought it was two for $25 which made it it less of a pain (when you were quick enough to get the release you wanted, or were able to check out, that is!)

If this was still the case, coupled with what Spencer had indicated previously about being able to 'hold over' an individual purchase to combine it with another at a later date, the new regime still wouldn't be too bad... though paying roughly a tenner extra for each DW deluxe via the States is gonna hurt.

One simple suggestion. While it's great that a standard version of DW and Mondo releases will be available at UK & Europe retail via this new distributor (presumably cheaper than buying direct from Mondo), why not make the deluxe versions available via the same channel too?

UK retail has had both the black standard edition of the new Carpenter LP and the fancy B&W split, plus there was the Baron Blood splatter offered at a higher price alongside the regular black, so it's not unprecedented.

By all means keep a fancy colour exclusive on the Mondo site for collectors. Maybe I've read the situation wrongly and this is based on conjecture, but the above seems more sensible than making records we were once able to get harder to get hold of.

All this is being said only because, like others, I'm looking forward to whatever is in the pipeline. ;)

Spencer, maybe you could consider sending a box with maybe 50 of the deluxe/exclusive vinyl to/via One Way Static (if they would be willing to distribute them) - that way your hardcore fans in Europe would be able to get a copy without paying through the roof to get them shipped from Mondo.
