To me it's not even about having the deluxe colour vinyl, I love the deluxe editions for the textured sleeves and sleeve notes etc.

I don't buy Mondo stuff online due to the postage costs (I recently picked up a cheap CD of Cat in the Brain rather than the vinyl from Mondo which was 30 pounds with postage - and that 'random' insertion thing is truly awful, actually puts me off buying stuff from them.) and when it does turn up on places like Amazon or Juno, it's horrendously expensive. Just cannot justify it with a young family and a lot of outgoings (Even more so when there's a cheaper CD available.). I splashed on the Baron Blood 'splatter' as I'm a huge fan of Stelvio Cipriani, but won't be doing that again. (I think they 'saw me coming' with that one!)

Well Tuesday isnt far away so guess we'll all have to see how it goes
I am excited no two ways but have to echo the same disappointment as put above (like another voice is needed)
Ive subbed the last two times and become a big DW fan. But Ras hit it on the head - us UK folk only really had DW on our side and now thats going stateside.
Still i live in hope. Will wait and see what occurs. Maybe shipping 2 LPs will make shipping more bearable? Surely if thats that much difficulty with the existing fanbase a solution can be found. Especially if as said DW is still its own entity so everything wont be done strictly the mondo way...

Being the the US myself, it will be nice to be able to get the deluxe editions at a better price (since the sub is no longer there), though I'm guessing the prices won't be that much lower. My main concern is the potential of the Mondo style drop and the flippers now going after DW releases since it's all in the same place. We'll have to see how it goes on Tuesday. My hope is that they start pressing more copies, as I think removing the "limited edition, X amount of copies" aspect will help the situation some, but I fear DW will start being a bigger target of flippers with Mondo selling them. I also think it's a great idea to see if Seb at OWS will sell a limited number of deluxe versions for EU fans. His store seems to be under the radar enough that a heads up here will allow people to get them, so it's a win for everyone.

It would be really good if Tuesday's website "relaunch" would not come with a new release to order but with the prior news of a secret 7" I'm afraid that won't be the case. A day or 2 to let people poke around the new site and see how it's laid out and how shipping may work out would be good for the buyers without having to deal with the crush of any potential release.

The shipping topic has been beaten to death at this point (though extremely valid), but even in the US i'm concerned that 7" costing $15+7 to ship based on past pricing, so I couldn't even imagine how bad it would be overseas. I guess we'll see.

Guys
I love Seb like a brother but we are not going to give him our stock to sell in Europe.
I can tell you now the 7' on sale tuesday is very LTD , BUT we are upping our pressing quantites on things going forward so say the ZFE variant will be 1000 (as I'm taking into account the usual 500 we'd sell, the 300 that would have been for subbers and a couple hundred on top for good luck)

Of course shipping costs and combing orders is something we'll continually look at but it is what is is.

I order records from all over the world shipping is expensive , I don't piss and moan about it , I just decide if I want to pay the 20 euro shipping for Le French on vinyl or not (sorry if that sounds harsh)
I am not sure why you think shipping from Mondo would be any different .

That's all I have to say on the subject as quite frankly this is another of those 'going round in circles' discussions we seem to have every few months.

Why don't you all just sit and wait to see what killer new releases we have and then decide if you are going to shell out and buy them or not.

Also

I am going to ban the phrase 'Real Fans' and the word 'Flipper' and replace them with an automatic word change to dandelion and asprin :)

Look in mondo's store there are plenty of records to buy , we have a higher pressing rate than in the past and things stay around longer , also you might actually have some words of praise for us regarding random variants next week...

it would be "different" for european customers, and by different I mean expensive.
When is the Twin Peaks coming? I can't wait! :D

We love Seb too, he knows how to tend to all his customers with his LITA cooperation.

I was using LITA before OWS had released a record.
This is all pointless.
When I buy a record from Discogs or superior Viaduct I have to make a decision to buy it or not . I don't complain to Superior Viaduct because they don't have European shipping in place .

The assumption that I don't look after DW fans is bullshit and insulting

@Spencer
Is the 7" that goes on sale tuesday the same as the 7" bonus we are getting from the last sub? At a conference all day Tuesday, hoping to not play the f5 game on my phone while in a class.

Looking forward to what the new year brings for music, 2014 was my favorite so far (with regard to scores).

Spencer, it's a compliment that people care about something you've created, and on buying the records you recommend and release. I'd think any one of us would be disappointed if the shipping rate is the one thing stopping us from getting a record as it pushes it outside our price range (though some might not post on a forum about their disappointment). We all have a finite budget, no matter how high or low that is. Higher prices ultimately mean we get to hear less music.

I think I'll not post for a while - I don't want to offend (so sorry if I have). Like you say, it's going in circles and it's not even Tuesday yet. Best of luck.

When will the record-collecting community come to terms with shipping costs? As Spencer said, and anyone in their right mind would tell you, if it's more than you're willing to pay, don't buy it. Your trials are not extraordinary.

Even if I am also one of those who have to pay more for shipping, but hey, that's business! That's the point. SH business is to run a record company. If it is more profitable - and this is nothing indicent - for him to send from the US, it is his job to do this as a business man.

Guys,

Take chill pills. Everything is gonna be alright.
This circle is endless.

It always comes back, again and again and… Ever since the beginning. Full bleed artwork, black vinyl vs variant, sub or no sub, Mondo merger etc… always this 'fear of change' and it always turns out that everybody is happy in the end, the complaining was always totally unnecessary.

I've known Spencer for years. We started doing this around the same time and his dedication to the fans and lovers of these releases is beyond question. The reason he joined Mondo is to have even more recourses to cater your needs. Believe me, you are in for a treat.

OWS can't be compared to DW/MONDO, we run a tiny operation here so we have more leeway to do custom logistic requests on the side, etc. A big operation like DW/MONDO just has to make certain choices- concessions on the shipping & logistics side. That's why OWS released like ten records over the years and DW triple that much. If Spencer did not make the choices he made, you would have missed out on tons of great releases beautifully packaged.

The future looks bright if you love these types of releases. So be happy… EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALL RIGHT and these beauties will be easier to get allover the globe!

The other side of the coin is to not shit on people who have stated they wont be able to, or are unwilling to pay the postage costs for what are quite regular releases. Great Spencer if you can afford to do that often, as you seem to imply, others of us can't.

A lot of us, who supported you and ensured your success in the early years aren't able to buy your products at the rate we could. We cannot enhance our collections with every release you make, especially now the deluxe ones are exclusive to Mondo. By the way, that's who you are now, Mondo, not DW

The disappointment that's driving this, not anger, is that it's Something we as customers have decided to invest our hard earned money in; not just the product, but the ethos also. That ethos has just been subsumed by Mondo. You have even stated that you are doing random variants. It's not what it was, no, and change happens, not all of us can go along with it. It's another botched launch by DW, being economical with the truth about how things would be right up to launch day. Enjoy your new found American company, you are naive to expect all of us to gaily skip along with you.

I've made my choice and won't be giving you or Mondo another penny. And. Won't be whining about it. You need a long hard look at yourself Spencer if you can't understand the disappointment around here
You moan about your job so much on here; you like us, have a choice: if you don't enjoy it, find another job.

Now anyone want to buy a DW collection.....

I'll possibly be piling up an extra copy of deluxe editions, if that can help. Once I got 3 or 4 of them piled up I can possibly ship such a package to the UK for 55$/65$, according to current post prices. as long as it's not over 2 Kg of weight.

was that necessary Stumpy ? Maybe take your own advice : ''If you don't enjoy it... etc. ''

you could also get regular edition in UK stores. or. you know. get a US vinyl buddy. or trade. That's gotta be more constructive than being mean here.

@Nathanlurker lol bro. If you are offering up a limited subscripion service of 1, can i jump onboard and be the only subber

Na guys it is wise to see how it goes before the bitching and moaning its unfair. We all have our concerns in life. Maybe it wont work out for all, maybe me included unsure yet. But hay anyone else can try and start up a record outfit and try and do it in a different way if they think they can do better...

Fucking hell, this is really getting out of hand, and the whole merger thing hasn't even officially started yet, read - no one but Spencer/Mondo/those in the know know exactly how it is going to go in regards to what stays the same, what changes etc and yet people are already up in arms about it. At least wait and see what effects the merger has before voicing such disapproval.

The strangest thing is that in a number of the recent posts certain posters seem to think they are owed something for buying DW (or whoever's releases) and, even more bizarrely, that they have some sort of ownership rights in the company for being return customers! It's like the whole underground band signs to major label thing and the underground turns it's back on said band, as they "betrayed their roots" etc. For a bunch of adults some of you need to grow up!

Postage is expensive, even those in the states are affected by global postage increases and even though it may be a bit annoying that you have to pay a bit more for something you used to get a little cheaper, that's life. As I've said in a previous post I live in Australia, and everything, as a general rule, costs me about double, a single record costs almost its price again in postage. God forbid some people may have to prioritise what they buy, or not buy on the initial drop and make do with a more standard copy! If that's not possible then buy two and split the costs with another forumite or local record collector friend, as I sometimes do.

Hopefully one thing we can all agree is good news is that Spencer mentioned upping the printing numbers of the releases, including deluxe versions, which means there should be plenty to go around and should help everyone avoid the shitstorm of chaos that comes with a record drop. Or did no one else notice this due to being to outraged by DW selling out/shipping from the U.S. etc??
