Did anyone else read Carpenter's Invivisible Jukebox in a recent issue of Wire? Pretty great stuff.

Some highlights:

On being played the title music for '4 Moths...:'

"[Morricone has] made some brilliant scores. [Pauses] Myabe *this* isn't one of them..."

(for those that don't remember, this is the rock song from the opening scene, not at all what I (try to) think of when I think of this score. in fact, I usually skip this song when playing the LP)

On Death Waltz's reissues of this scores:

"Yeah. They've been taking my old corpses and raping them and putting them out there again, all to take your money."

ha! I get the sense that if you asked him about this 10 times, you'd get 10 different answers depending on his mood.

Anyway, he raves about Herrmann, Tiomkin, James Bernard and Tangerine Dream. A fun little read. It might be available on their site.

Yeah I raved about this issue of Wire in another thread a couple of weeks back....

Also has a very interesting Mica Levi feature in the same edition, so a great read for soundtrack aficionados.

I get the impression that Carpenter's grouchiness is all part of the act - wouldn't like to have been the interviewer but at least he does press him on a few points which made for a more interesting read than the run-of-the-mill promo pieces elsewhere

Also a great February issue of Fangoria, with interview and career soundtrack review with JC, interview with Clint Mansell, fascinating story of the Dan O'Bannon film - Resurrected (coming out on Blu Ray, but not sure if it's a director's cut) - focusing on Richard Band's score...... and lastly an interview with Protector 101 (who has just synth-scored a new film Collar)

That fangoria issue sounds excellent, does anyone know a cheapish way to get it in the UK? I am in Northern Ireland where the newsagents are not too great and to order it direct from the states is 26 dollars.

I get a sub of an American horror mag from them and it works out about £7 an issue

Mostly comes out at night. Mostly.

I struggled to find a consistent way of getting it (I'm also UK) - a bit hit and miss in newsagents - so ended up ordering it on a yearly subscription. Costly, but not too bad. I forgot Forbidden Planet - sounds like a good option.

I subscribe to fangoria, and not being a collector of magazines I usually eBay them after I've read them.

If any UK folks want the JC edition let me know and you can have it for £5 plus postage.

Will have to wait a few weeks though as it only arrived yesterday!
