The black and blue I have opened and played. I'll check again later today how that one sounds. I still have a sealed copy of the green one if you want but with shipping that one is probably going to be unnecessarily expensive.

That black and blue version sounds very good. I did have one pop near the end of side A. But not sure if that was because of some dust particle or because of the pressing. I didn't take away from the listening experience for me.
Side B no issues.

@Mateo - I also have the "mummy spice" version, which sounds clean. I do not remember hearing about any noise problems with this pressing.

But after seeing Terror Train and realizing the score hasn't been released on any format you can ask them if they are going to release it.

I'd like to ask about the The Exorcist release that was announced. Specifically, what the tracklist will be. I'm fascinated by the inner workings of rights acquisitions and what materials labels have access to. For example, Waxwork has released expanded versions of Taxi Driver, The Warriors, and DotD yet did a very standard reissue of The Thing and, depending on who you believe, a curious choice for The Exorcist as well. Interesting stuff to me.

Waxwork Records is proud to present the deluxe vinyl re-issue of DARKMAN Original Motion Picture Score. Directed by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army Of Darkness) and starring Liam Neeson, DARKMAN is a 1990 dark superhero film that pays homage to classic Universal horror films from the 1930’s and 40’s. The film follows a scientist that is attacked, burned alive, and left for dead by ruthless mobsters, who then returns to seek revenge on the men that made him what he is.

Unable to acquire the rights to Batman or The Shadow, Director Sam Raimi decided to create his own, original character, drawing inspiration from The Phantom Of The Opera and other classic horror monsters. A hideous and disfigured non-superpowered man that fights crime, but he is also an unfortunate victim to a tragic love story as a creature that desires, but ultimately cannot have his love interest.

The score by composer Danny Elfman mixes classic orchestral compositions and unsettling carnival music.

Waxwork Records has re-mastered the full DARKMAN score for vinyl, and packaging details include 180 gram “Fire” vinyl (Fluorescent Orange and Red Swirl vinyl), housed in an old-style tip-on gatefold jacket with satin coating, all new artwork by award winning and acclaimed illustrator Francesco Francavilla, and a 12”x12” art print.

My guess is that the thinking is those of us who are really excited by the music all ready know what the deal is, and the blurbs and sales pitches are designed to get folks into collecting things to bite.

At least that's my read on it.

I was hoping this would be an expansion of the og mca release but that doesn't look like the case. I'll be sticking with my old copy. Too much stuff coming out right now to double dip on non expanded re-issues. Not a bad problem to have in all honesty. :)

I don't think the music even factors that much into it for Waxwork. I think they look at a title and decide whether it's popular enough (or at least has a cult following) to warrant a release, what kind of interesting packaging/artwork can be done with it, and then finally the music. At least Mondo seems to base its releases on the music first, or at least that's the impression I get by some of the odd movies they release.

So I guess my take on it is that the movie itself may not be that well known to people, whereas Elfman is.

Also, as far as any comparison between labels goes, for every time spencer gets some obscure Italian gem out there for us, mondo releases the score to a Laika film or castlevania chip tunes on wax (of which I'm a big fan, not knocking that at all, have 'em all and keep em coming"

I mean, is "don't look know" the hot pop ticket item these days? That's a fairly risky release if you aren't courting serious soundtrack people. Trust me, these guys are thinking about the music....I've spoken a lot to Kevin about upcoming releases and there's some seriously great and unexpected stuff coming our way.

I don't know guys, it's still a business and maybe this was the way they chose to market this particular release. I work in advertising and sometimes the angle is one way and sometimes it's another, and it can be he's to figure out the best way to sell this stuff.

Anyway, just my two cents...

Actually I agree with hatter sentiments...they probably thought the film might be a little obscure to young folks so they are holding their hands with opener. My one cent!

come on guys.... none of their release feel anything less than titles they want to own themselves because they are fans. They might not have the same quality of blurbs that, let's say, Finders Keepers have, but I suspect it's because they just don't have the same talent, writing about music as Andy Votel does . And that's fine, for a marketing blurb, you don't need to go as deep and insightful and academic as Andy. you only really need a quick overview of what the product's about when you put out a blurb for it. Danny Elfman is super known too, maybe they didn't feel a need to expand on what he does on that Darkman soundtrack.

I do wish we'd have black vinyl though. I'm not anti colored vinyl, but I try to get them in black when the packaging is the same (unless the color really works with the movie and the packaging art. like the white vinyl for Ex Machina, the beer colored Shaun/Hot Fuzz....)

i caught most of the feed. it was really cool of WW to answer everyone's questions and give so much details on future releases. They also, talked about doing the possibility of future vids as well.
they gave a big list of future releases:
Night of the Living Dead 50th anniversary , House 1& 2, Friday 13th video game, Prom Night, Sorcerer (and other Tangerine Dream releases) , It (1990), The Exorcist ( with a big LA release), Queen of Earth, and Drag Me to Hell. Some people were saying that the It release will be a 3 lp set, but i must have missed that part. They also were talking about possibly releasing Dawn of the Dead and Near Dark. They were talking about the rejected score for the Exorcist, but something about not currently releasing due to respecting someones wishes.

I'm glad they are doing the 1990 IT, it was a good guess on most peoples parts from their red balloon emojis, but good to see confirmed, thats a great score.

Thanks for the updates, Gibbsy! I'll take more TD on wax, but I'd love it to be of, or at least include, hard to find music. Sorceror can be had for $5-10 with ease. Most of the rest don't do much for me, but I'm stoked for folks for whom they do. I'm still wondering what their The Exorcist plan is. I guess I'll remain guarded yet hopeful for the time being.
