I'm lucky enough to have an OG Varese NotLD, in fact I may just have to spin it later on. But maaaan... I am so into this complete edition!! You know I need those freaky ass reverb-drenched electronic cues!

There's a subscriber tshirt for Notld that's coming as well, I'm hyped about getting this release. I saw Notld in theater in mid september, I'm so glad I had the chance to see it on the big screen.

Yeah man, I finally picked up an OG over the summer for not too bad a price (same place I found the TCM boot) but I’m stoked for this expanded set.

I had the OG as a teen, and I had Romero sign it for me at a lecture he gave at some college (I had to take a subway and two buses to get to it!).

But it sadly disappeared over the years. It’s weird; I do have about half of the records I had as a kid, including lots of OG Varese, but I have no idea what happened to certain ones (OG Evil Dead, a signed Creepshow, all the NOES, etc).

But I'm with the old you on this one; the artwork is clever, but it doesn't really move the needle for me. I'm not a huge Elfman guy anyhow (outside of those damn Batman films and the Sledgehammer theme) so I ain't too busted up about it.

Ha! The brain fog must be lingering, Nathaniel. I was conflating the Burbs release with the forthcoming(?) Beetlejuice offering.

Interestingly, the friendly email convo I was having back and forth with Waxwork went totally dead when I asked them about Beetlejuice, hahaha.

I did just email them to ask them what the sub variant color was going to be, because I love that Ghoul Green.
They answered pretty much immediately and just said the sub variant is "completely different" than the variant that has been shown, and that's all they said.

Yep.

I recommend not thinking too much about it.

I asked Waxwork if I bought this retail version, if they’d combine shipping with the sub version, and they said subs will ship separately (and they didn’t say when that would be).

Green smoke (FYE exclusive) and black smoke (Newbury Comics exclusive).

I want to buy more of your product? Can you ship together?

No fuck you. I already have your money, I want more of it to maximize my profit. You must pay additional shipping.

It certainly isn't an issue unique to WW. In fact, far from it. But a $50 record, give or take, is a tough pill to swallow. Too tough if I'm honest. I can afford it, but I won't.

PS - I could feel myself ageing as I typed that.

PPS - Please don't anyone let your voices of excitement for this release (I'm excited by it, too!) be stymied because couple of us are voicing their objections to pricing. This is a cool thing to have in the World.

Agreed @Mateo. Obviously we all buy these things or some of them. It's just when it feels like almost every release is creeping up in price I find myself stepping back and seeing what else is coming or where I can spend my money more efficiently. I'm not well off, I work a job that pays my bills, doesn't make me hate life and allows me to work M-F 8-5 roughly. I try to budget my record buying, it's one of my few excessive money pits. I honestly can't afford to buy 3-4 $40+ records a month on top of the used records & tapes I'm picking up as well. I bought TMNT no matter the price, I would have paid more than I did, I do think it was way too much but I'm a Turtle fanatic so I had to own it. I love NotLD but at $48 it's an easy pass, if it was $35 shipped, I would have bought it. My point is that we all find value in what we collect but some things hold more value for others and what you think is worth spending your money on. So ignore my bitching about price :)

I bit the bullet myself, but yeah, 46 bucks shipped was pretty rough for a domestic release. When the article released the other day saying 40 msrp, i thought maybe that'd be just retail, but nope.

First: I do not mind the talk about pricing. These records do cost an arm and leg sometimes.
Second: to put the $40 without domestic shipping in another light: I have DWRC's Profondo Rosso waiting at the post office to be collected. It has a customs charge of around $23 I first need to pay. That means it cost me: $35 + $23,50 shipping + $23 customs = $81,50 for this 1 record...
Another package is also waiting: I placed an order for Halloween I and II to ship together: $32 for each record + $23,50 shipping + $23 customs = $110,50. $55 for each record.

I am not happy... Custom charges are not the fault of Mondo/DWRC but there is something they can do, and sometime they actually do. Waxwork and Sacred Bones for instance mark the value at $10 per record. That means that an order with 2 records means no custom charges. Mondo has done this occasionally, but as the examples above show not always.
When I received the Waxwork triple Goblin bundle I had to pay around $23 in customs as well for those three records. That I can understand. But $81 for the 1 DWRC Profondo Rosso... that simply sucks.

Of course I do not have to buy directly from Mondo but like most people nowadays the fear of missing out makes me jump on some releases the moment they drop. Also I do prefer the more limited/fancier colorway opposed a retail version (even if the retail version is even more limited e.g. the black was versions you can find in Europe). Profondo Rosso is still for sale at Transmission for around $45 without shipping. Should have known that.

I could talk up 'rising production costs', 'licensing fees', etc, but if I'm really blunt do you know why I think these records are costing so much these days?

Because people are buying them.

What's a bunch of moaners on IG/FB when the reality is that those same whiners are...still....BUYING THE RECORDS.

Sorry folks, but it's that simple. If these labels were left with huge stocks of unsold stock gathering dust on their shelves, I bet you dollars to donuts the prices would come down.

It's all fair enough- success with their releases means labels have more in the coffers to chase bigger licenses/deals/involve more creatives, and we all dig that. I don't think it's that mysterious really.

Overseas shipping/customs... that's another beast all together, and will never not be a giant sting in the butt I fear.

I almost exclusively wait for retail versions of WW/Mondo which I want these days, since I clocked that there is ALWAYS a retail option (though they continue to keep that to themselves for the most part- again, no brainer: they want peeps to buy direct from their own stores!). It ultimately saves me a bundle, and quite often I've preferred the version which goes to retail anyway.

Having said that- I ordered the WW NotLD in half a second, without thinking. Don't ask me why, I just 'Pavlov Dogged' that motherfucker as soon as I saw it, must be because I was possessed by the spirit of Halloween! ;D

@SCoJo
I think you nailed it with your remarks.

NotLD was part of my $285 Waxwork Subscription. That includes shipping costs and up till now no custom charges. Essentially a steal :-)
I do still need to jump on that Morricone Youth bundle before the 9th...

I sprung for the ghoul green NOTLD even though I’m getting whatever I’m getting via my sub. NOTLD is a big enough deal to me that I don’t want to be stuck with a colored vinyl (or one that’s noisy on account of its color) that I don’t love.
I kinda thought it would sell out quickly like DOTD, so either way, I’d be able to just quickly resell whichever one I like less, but either people aren’t shelling out for these, or they pressed a lot of them, because it doesn’t seem like any of these are sold out.
I’m still bummed I didn’t get the “standard” issue DOTD cause I don’t totally love the sub colors, and now the regular one is crazy money.

Are you talking about Dawn of the Dead? You can sell your sub copy for at least $100 and if you wait a bit you are surely able to get a copy of the other version for less than that.
