Sounds amazing but I'm sure a big chunk will be snapped up by flippers at these events, most of which probably won't even have a record player. If it's down to licensing then fair enough but still pisses me off.

Yeah its a shame there isnt half of them in black. Nothing quite like those discog descriptions that state "never played just opened to check colour"

This records sounds awesome but...

Did anyone else notice this:

"Only 800 copies will be created. The exclusive Death Waltz vinyl will be included in the cost of admission."

It sounds like everyone with a ticket gets a record without having to pay extra for it. I doubt there will be many, if any at all, left over.

I will keep my fingers crossed but I have a feeling quite a few of us are going to be bummed with how much we have to pay to get one of these. Hopefully I am wrong because if Death Waltz is putting it out, I need to have it, because it will be awesome.

Only 800 copies knowing how many people will be dying to jump on board with this. Either Mondo have insisted its a mondocon exclusive or it's been limited to build up the profile of Death Waltz originals to get everyone talking about it. Disappointing after building up the "originals" that the 1st release is probably gonna be hard to come by for the faithful with out been stung by eBay prices !

Very impressed - what a great collaboration! Sounds so creepy and ominous. Hopefully, it won't be too difficult to get into the screening (but these things usually sell out way fast).

I'm in TX and seriously considering going now that all these sweet album titles have been announced!

It sounds amazing. My hope (and hunch) is that the limited 800 copies are of that one event exclusive color, and that a more standard color will be announced after the event. Given the artists and the movie title, there's definitely demand for more than 800 copies, and most of us don't really care what color we get as long as we can buy a copy.

Phil I am sorry you think 'It's shit'

We (Myself, Anton , Matt & Beyond Fest ) have been planning this for a year, so much hard work and effort and we really wanted to make this release special as not only is it the debut of our new sub label but it is also screening specific.

This bootleg edition is exclusive for the screenings.

Any leftovers will go online after the event.

Cheers Spencer. It is a bit shit but only because a) I'm a huge Umberto fan and b) I'm a huge DW fan and want to snag all the releases from you!

Just be a Shame if they get bought out by people who don't care about either of those two things but see it as a quick flip!

i don't really care if i get my hands on this specific 'event exclusive' version. if this one sells out at the events, spencer has been great about doing represses on red or black or whatever (who cares what color), so i know we will have options at some point. above all, this is an amazing announcement that this has even been done. let's not get our panties in a wad over a vinyl color. DW has never let me down personally, so why start worrying now. cheers, friends!

Am I missing something as I can't see anything anywhere referring to a version that will be available for regular folk to buy. I got the impression that this will be a one off run of 800 for the event only. No mention of another run in different colours, qty etc.. Would love it if there was. Maybe I'm just not reading between the lines

the release sounds cool as fuck. but why throw it in the faces of most fans who can't be there to claim one at the screenings? the events will sell out or at least be very well attended... if there's going to be a 2nd release for the unlucky masses, just say so. it isn't like people won't go to the screenings if they know they can get the vinyl later. that kind of exclusivity bullshit is why people are beginning to turn on record store day. just make more so people can buy & enjoy them. the point, right?

I'm pretty sure Spencer just confirmed my hunch by saying "This bootleg edition is exclusive for the screenings", meaning there will be another edition available at some point.

Will there be a digital or streaming version available online in the meantime? I would gladly purchase this from iTunes or eMusic. Anton and Matt are amazing dudes, can't wait to see this.

Most botched record label launch ever......? ;-)

I suppose we're all still learning.

Exactly. Spence has always played it as fair as, and rarely disappoints, so Im not worried either

A botched launching would have meant not promoting the event, only printing up a 100 half ass-ed produced cassettes, and not picking a loved film to re-score that will actually keep the attention of the attendees of said event.

I don't like artificial scarcity with record labels but I will defend Death Waltz on the launch, especially picking two artists to work with that are by far the best working in the field. Just because you won't be able to get the pressing of the vinyl from the event doesn't mean that the launch is a failure or a botch.

I'm not trying to belittle your opinion but that just seems like a very harsh statement to throw out there. The music business is one of the shittiest out there. I know you had the smiley face but I just felt like Death Waltz doesn't deserve that kind of a harsh response. You can't please everyone.

It wasn't meant to be harsh, hence the winking smiley face and the comment we're all still learning. This was a more a comment on the, er, unhappy posts so far. DW have been a great company for the care and effort they put into every aspect of their releases. I don't expect that will change, Spencer loves the genre and collecting aspect too much. I feel he knows what the collectors out there want, and that is why personally try to get a copy in some form of every DW release. Not only is the package good, the music is always bloody excellent to boot- which let's face it is the overwhelming main reason for buying a record. Ultimately I am only really interested in the music.

Unfortunately you can't have a simultaneous global launch that pleases everybody, especially if the planned 1st release is tied into a local event. No one is debating that hard work, much hard work by the sound of it, has gone into this sub label and first release.

Perhaps the lack of similar calibre of event in the UK has guided DW to have a debut release in this manner, that is not Spencer's fault, and that is why the debut is in the US. I think it is this, perhaps with the possible lack of full details of all variants (if indeed any) of this LP that has caused the consternation.

Guys, it's supposed to be a fun thing! You go to the screening, you get the record! Fun! Jesus Christ!

Antimax you missed the part about getting the plane and a hotel!

i think @antimax was referring to the situation, not actually going to the fests and getting the record (although that would be fun). IF you go to the screening, you get the record. if there are leftovers, they go on DW's site - JUST LIKE WITH THE FRIZZI FLEXIs (which is basically the same situation as we are discussing here). and i am more than confident there will be some sort of repress to be made available for a wider audience. if you are out to collect every variant of every record that DW puts out, the bigger they get, the harder that will be, and you can expect to pay an assload (yes, an entire assload! maybe two assloads!) of money to do that. and frankly, i have kids that will need to go to college eventually, so i can't be bothered with that.
