It plays right into the hands of the professional vinyl flippers out there surely?
I couldn't make sense of this statement until I noticed the word "professional".
I'm obviously naive - I didn't know there were people who flipped full time. I knew there were professional ticket touts, but I hadn't thought about professional vinyl flippers, as I didn't think the market would be that big, even if the margins could be high per item. I assumed there were just people who found out about something being released in limited quantities and bought a couple of extras to make some money off of, or even just bought it only to make money - in which case, I would've thought having a fixed time would play into their hands, as they'd not need to waste as much time refreshing, etc.
I'm hoping to get the Deluxe, depending on cost. I would think most people will be able to get a copy today, even if it's not the version they want most. I can understand frustration for completists, but you can't blame any of the labels for licensing issues, and if the end result is you can put the needle down and hear the music, and it's a good pressing, what the cover looks like is hopefully relatively insignificant.
